That made me think of the Long, Long Trailer movie. A laugh a minute.

What would you do if you saw this sign?

I've been over this several times, in both directions, just hammer down. The grade is not the problem, it s the areas where people want to stop and look. They don not leave much room to get by, just slow for the the people that cannot pass their driving test; otherwise not a bad road

Turn around and never go back.

Turn around and never go back.
We stopped for fuel and the attendant asked if the RV were ours and suggested we not continue on WY 14A but if we did look for the crosses and the broken glass on the way down the far side of the mountain. It’s the remains of campers and RV’s that tried and failed. Well, we were not towing that day and there were many crosses and plenty of broken glass.
We encountered several vehicles not towing but with smoke pouring from their wheel-wells.

I live near 108 DONT do it with a long trailer, I have with an 18 footer and it was very tight. lots to do around the Est area anyway.

Of course, if you are a Floridian that drive east of Yosemite is a bit daunting. I am always amazed at westerners who don't seem to feel a need to put guard rails around a curve with a couple of thousand foot drop off. Even if they wouldn't keep me and my rig on the road, at least guard rails do provide a "flat lander" a little emotional comfort, sort of a highway "placebo"!

In my opinion highway 4 is the most scenic pass over the Sierras. Closed in winter of course.

.....aw.........C'mon.......

Hang around the west long enough......

1. Jerome AZ
2. Salt River canyon on AZ77 / US60
3. Moki Dugway
4. Apache Trail
5. Montrose to Durango
6. Coming down to Denver on I-70 (or Co. Springs on US24) on a summer Sunday evening.
7. Back way to Aspen from US24 across Independence Pass (good fishing)
8. WY130 from Laramie to Saratoga....snow free from July 4th to mid-Sep
9. Lolo from Lewiston
10. Ely from Reno on an August afternoon.
11. Buena Vista CO across Cottonwood pass to Taylor Park Reservoir (great fishing)
12. Hart Mt. National Antelope Refuge, OR...or Winnemukka NV to Burns OR through Frenchglen.
13. Mt. View AR, from any direction, on a bluegrass weekend.

Done all of these a bunch of times (except Dugway.......screw that; once was enough), either with a 1/2 T pulling a TT or a MH pulling a toad........some of them before they were paved (some still aren't).......since the 60's.

Never overheated or lost brakes. Got a bit puckered once or twice, though.

Bwah hah, if there was a sign on our trail (other than the "Unmaintained Road") it would be that one for us to get home. Plus 26% climbs in a few places. We love it. If some one shows up they going to be trouble or seriously lost.

We discovered that drive from the parking lot up the 26% grade to the campground when we arrived late one night at Amicalola Falls. The ranger just shook his head and led us up in our 21 ft Toyota Motorhome. Pedal to the floor got us 15 mph. Stopped 1/2 way up to cool the transmission but we finally made it. Other than a couple in a tent we were the only ones there. During the night it sounded like something crawled over the coach [emoji33].
After sunup we enjoyed our day at a beautiful place and were reminded how out-of-shape we were walking the inclined roads. The drive down wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be but I wouldn't do it again in that vehicle.

Many years ago I went to Pilot Mountain, NC to camp for the weekend. Upon arrival I decided to drive to the top for the view while still towing the 23’ trailer. Got about 1/2 way up and noticed a park ranger following me. It was a hard pull with many tight turns and a steep grade. Fortunately I had a very capable International Travelall as a TV. When I got to the top and parked the ranger approached and said I should not have brought the trailer up the hill. I promptly told him a warning sign at the BOTTOM would have been nice.
It was a slow, low gear ride down.

We drove 108 in our 3/4 ton diesel 4x4. The fifth wheel was safely residing in a campground in Yosemite.

If I had met someone towing a trailer up that grade while going around one of the hairpin curves, one of us would have had to drive in the ditch (if there happened to be a ditch and not a steep slope or rock cut). The road may be paved, but much of it is barely more than one lane wide.

That is why Californians use 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks even if they are only pulling a 21’ trailer. This is a local area for me. My brother has pulled his 32’ trailer over it but uses a f250 diesel . I usually ride a motorcycle over that pass 1 or 2 times a year . The whole east slope of the Sierras along 395 is a very beautiful area and it stays cool over there in the summer. Hwy 4 is the next pass to the north and also has some steep grades and switchbacks. 88 is ok . Good bbq in Walker.

In the last 43 years, I have been over 108 at least 100 times, driving cars, pickup trucks, vans, motorcycles, and once a 35' Gillig school bus. I love that stetch of road between Hwy 395 and Sonora. I will not - repeat, NOT - be attempting to pull my TT over it.

You make this old Floridian feel a mite better. Thanks.
