Where to "water up" near Joshua Tree NP

Next month we are headed to Joshua Tree NP (Indian Cove) and I would prefer not to drag an extra several hundred pounds of water on our way there. Does anyone know of a good place to fill up the FW tank near the Indian Cove camping area? I didn't see anything on the park's website about a fill station and I think that using one of the community water spigots might be frowned upon.

Thanks for the help!

Water is available at the small ranger station roughly two miles north of the campground.

Although we've been camping for many years I've never pulled into a Pilot or Flying J on our travels. Do I go back to where the big rigs are or is there a "non-professional drivers" area?

You can park at the pump and walk in m get gas ask them where the fresh water is located at.. dont just park in the back with the rigs unless they give you permission. Call ahead ask if they have water as well - some dont

OK, that distance is just about right for needing a fill up so that should work perfect.

Thanks again!

Water in Joshua Tree NP

We have camped at Black Rock Campground inside Joshua Tree NP where there are sites with full hookups. You may be able to get a campsite reservation for one of those sites, or check with the Ranger Station there to see if they would allow you to just fill up your freshwater tank. There is a dump station there at Black Rock with fresh water for flushing after dumping, but I cannot vouch for the safety of the fresh water available there.

I was travelling around that area here a couple of years ago with a lady friend in her class c. We needed a dump and fresh fill so we found a rv park in Twentynine Palms and did it all for $12. Restocked groceries in town and then two nights in Joshua Tree.

Water near Joshua Tree

If your route is I-10 west, then I suggest filling up gasoline about a mile inside the AZ border before California on north side.
Ask for water there. It’s a big truck stop.

But definitely fill gas, as a mile further west inside California, gad is more than a dollar higher.

Going east, hold on for gasoline just outside calif border.

It happened at the south end of the park, not near Indian Cove, but I gotta share an experience. We stayed in the park at Cottonwood Campground just off Rt 10. At the nearby dump station the valve on the freshwater hose was leaking badly. The whole area was wet and in that dry climate it was like a magnet. Honey bees were swarming all over the place - couldn't get near to fill up.
