Winter Camping in Arizona

Has anyone had experience in the Camp Verde area of Arizona in Jan or Feb or have an RV Park recommendation? I'm thinking about spending a couple of weeks in that area next winter. Looks like average lows around 31 for this date in Feb, which I consider acceptable.

There appears to be a number places to visit close by and is within a couple hr drive of the Grand Canyon. I was planning to stay in this area for a couple weeks hoping to get a chance to go to the GC to do a little photography with potential of snow on the canyon. Figure that's maybe 10% chance so I didn't want to go any farther north where elevation seems higher and temperatures colder.

Check out lo lo mai campground in oak creek (Sedona). Hard to find but being parked next to the creek was fantastic.

Take a look at Zane Grey RV park. They have walking trails, dog run and clean bath house. About 5 minutes off of the inter state and very quiet.

there are several rv parks in camp verde. we liked distant drums rv park. there is also a new one that just opened this year. it has a name something like verde valley rv park if i remember properly. it is quite large. there are a couple more but i don't know the names. one other place we like is dead horse ranch state park in cottonwood which is not that far from camp verde.

no promises on the weather. anything is possible but it should generally be about what you described. flagstaff and the grand canyon will be significantly colder than camp verde due to their increased elevation.

Distant Drum is a great full service RV Resort. $42- $45 but you get a nice paved level spot , wifi and cable tv.
I have stayed there last year in April for a week and enjoyed it.

Dead Horse State Park in Cottonwood is nice like most AZ state parks. Need a reservation definitely. Place was immaculate. Great Hiking and fishing. Good brewery in Cottonwood.

I’d recommend Sedona area over Flagstaff area; the weather will be alot better.

It's gonna be cool, esp at night. Very possibly well below freezing on occasion so make sure your propane is good. On the plus side, it's a great area with lots to see and do. The Verde Valley Railway is a must and pretty cheap compared to other RR rides. In Cottonwood there is the neatest antique place - Larry's. It's huge! The 50's restaurant at the casino is neat. All the staff sing! We loved Prescott too. Have fun.

Just remember that the traffic is terrible, so many new people moving to Arizona.

We loved Zane Grey (55+ park) but be aware that it basically has zero connectivity. No cell, no wifi.

Thanks, I had penciled them in but had not checked the cell coverage. I planned to stay for a week and really want connectivity.

We are headed to one of our favorites - Casa Grande Resort in Casa Grande. May not be exactly where you want but we enjoy it. Suggest you Google it first but find out if you can get in - very busy resort

Zane Grey RV park is a very nice park, meticulously maintained and within an easy drive of Sedona and other area sites. We were there in late March and the weather was perfect. They also have very, very nice cabins for rent for friends without RVs.

Verde Valley is a good place year around. Coolish in winter at 4,000 feet or so, but not bad. Most people would want to be further south where it is warmer, but that is where the crowds are.

I cannot recommend Sedona these days. Way too many people. Nowhere to park. Go have lunch and look around and leave.

While in Cottonwood area check out the Copper Museum. Excellent. A trip up the mountain to Jerome is in order. Fantastic views and small shops. The Tuzigoot (sp?) ruins are cool but I think the Feds closed it for the COVID-19.
