Yellowstone

We are traveling from SD to Yellowstone then back to California. How are the roads through the park towing a 5th wheel?

We were in Yellowstone last year. Even though there was a lot of construction in sections roads were good and easy to maneuver. The construction we saw should be complete, but I am sure they have some ongoing. Enjoy the beauty of Yellowstone.

If you are just planning on driving through you should have little trouble. If you want to stop and see stuff then a big rig like that is likely to be difficult. Better to just drop the trailer outside and use your truck as the sightsee vehicle.

Here is a link to the Park Roads Website that shows road conditions and current construction.

If I remember correctly the Yellowstone Grand Canyon had ample parking for campers as did Old Faithful. We only traveled from the east gate to OF and then down out through the south gate. Travel through this area is quite easy, although there are a few climbs that may be slow going, but it's usually slow anyway.

Most of the parking areas at the popular tourist spots are small and cramped. With exceptions such as Old Faithful, you'll need to drop your camper off somewhere if you want to stop at most of the pull offs.

There is also good parking at the marina (which is next to Grant Village campground), if you want to do the boat tour of the lake.

Yellowstone is mostly a Plateau. The approaches from the east are somewhat steep.
The main challenge in summer is traffic, wildlife jams and crowded parking lots. It is still a great place to be. I like the spring and fall best.
