2 mods to our 2010 378TS

Mod #1......
Converted the "here-to-fore useless" space above the fireplace to a printer and computer supply area. Reversed the door from opening up; to opening down. Built a printer slide out tray to set the printer on. Mounted a 1/2" x 16" x 17" wood tray to bottom mount drawer glides. See pics.

Mod #2......
Our 378TS lacks light above the cook top. Installed a 5 light LED light bar to slide ceiling above cook top. Finished it off by installing a 3" x 1/4" molding to kind of "dress up" the completed light install and cut down on the direct light glare.

We have enjoyed both mods very much as there is more functionality with both.

I want to do a light over the stove also.
I have been trying to find a way to get the power to it.
Did you hook into the box for the microwave or is it 12v?

The LED light 110ac cord runs from the light to between the microwave side and cabinet side, back to where the hole for the microwave cord plug is run through. The 110 outlet on ours only has one plug-in so I used a multi-plug adapter to plug into the outlet. The light and microwave are both plugged into this receptacle now.

Thanks for all the compliments also.

Pete

I (she also) really like the light idea. How did you attach the lights and the wood trim pieces to the ceiling?

We have a G378 (2012) and if you push the ''light'' on the Frigidaire microwave/convection oven there is a light under it.

I did a similar light mod in my 378, only I used a 12v ceiling light (purchased at Camping World) that matches the other lights in the coach. I'll post pics when I get the chance (coach is in storage right now). Also, I'd be happy to explain my install, if anyone wants to go the 12v route.

gartonhl and raoulwv:
How did you get the wire through to the light?
Did you drop the microwave?

No.....I didn't drop the MW oven.

There is a 1/2 inch space between the right side of the MW and the left side of the cabinet. I ran/fished the LED light plug through that space and through the hole that was cut for the MW plug on the left side of the cabinet.

I was lazy! We were enjoying our camping too much and didn't want to get into a protracted install of the light. I may run the plug on top of the MW later, but you really can't see the cord unless you look up under the molding that I installed to "somewhat" cover the cord up; or unless one is short enough to see it while standing in front.

Hope this helps....

No, I did not have to drop the microwave. I did have to remove the piece of wood trim above the microwave though. What I used to remove it was a steel rod that was narrow enough to fit between the microwave and the cabinet beside it. I then bent the end of the rod 90 degrees so I could get it in behind the trim and pop that end loose. The trim was attached with some brad nails that I couldn't reuse so cut them off flush. I found that the trim fit very snug and I really didn't need them anyway. Besides the light and wiremold I installed held it in place ( you'll see when I post the pics).
To connect the light to 12v, I popped the light fixture out under the cabinet next to the microwave. I then used a drill with an extra long bit and angled it through the opening to drill a hole in the side of cabinet that is hidden by the microwave. I then snaked a wire through the hole and over the microwave. I notched out the top of the wood trim I removed earlier for the wire to fit in. When it was all done, It looked like it had come from the factory that way (which it SHOULD have).

Thank's: gartonhl and raoulwv,
I think I will go with 110 after I get home.
Right now we making our way home from RGV and have an appointment with Forest River in Elkhart on April 2 for some adjustments that the dealer can't or won't do. Then we are going to Lima OH to visit family before we go back to Ontario.

Just curious gartonhl: How did you get the plug between the MW and the cabinet? Does the cord unplug from the light?

I cut the plug off and then spiced it back on after I got the wire thru the hole.
