2016 xl377ts TV Question
Well, trading in my Sunseeker 3170DS on a Georgetown xl377ts this week. I pick it up on Wed. Definitely a little nervous about the driving but I am sure I will be fine. I have a question about that 40" TV in living area. I noticed when we tested the inverter, and I noticed the TV was not on. Do you need the generator to run the TV while driving? That would be awful. Thanks in advance!

We have a 2015 328TS and none of the 120v outlets work unless we are plugged in or the generator is running.

The lnverter only run the refrigerator. There is another thread that discuses this. The other thread started because of only having one 12v plug up front.

Congratulations on your new 378. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and become accustom' to driving.

Wow, what a bad design. I'm my C, the tvs were 12 volt. I expect some long trips in this rig. I will need to find a way to get the TV working to occupy the kids. I'm guessing maybe there is a way to add another inverter. Or to tap into the current inverter and add the TV outlet to it somehow.

You can always run a new circuit to the inverter. If traveling in the summer you will most likely be running the generator anyway to keep everyone cool. The dash air will not cool the entire coach.

Do you think that the inverter will have no issue running a TV and a DVD player in addition to the TV? Glad to see you have the same Rig. I am sure once I have it I will have questions. This is the first one that popped up...Well that, and the awning seems odd to me in that the slide takes up half the space under it. Thanks again!

We have a 2013 378. The inverter only runs the refrigerator so I added a second inverter and installed a xantrex transfer switch to the circuit that runs to the slideout that containing the TV my Blue Ray player and DVR so I could run them while going down the road or dry camping.
Easy setup.

wrapperman, that is exactly what I did as well. Clean, neat and everything except the kitchen outlets works driving down the road or when boondocking. However, in retrospect, the Xantrex on the reefer is 2000 watts continuous and the reefer is no more than 950 or so. That means we could have added that transfer switch and hooked it up to the other duplex outlet on the existing inverter. I added a 1000 watt unit and actually there is an additional 1000w available on the reefer inverter anyway.

There is a similar thread that was on yesterday on best way to power a television. I posted this.
This is what I do. Samlex PST-120-12 Pure Sine Wave Inverter. I plug it in at the ant. booster 12 volt outlet. A 120 watt inverter from you 12 volt booster acc. outlet is no problem but I would not go much bigger. Works great. It was about $100 on Amazon. My 32" Furrion Tele and Directv Rec. draw about 80 to 90 watts together. My Directv receiver does not work on a modified sine wave inverter.
Another option if you do not want to deal with inverters is to swap your television for one that runs on 12 volt. A lot of the Jensen, Furrion, Skyworth Televisions are 12 volt and are built for RV, marine and mobile use.

Well Scott, my inverter was only a 1000 watts inverter so that limited me. My newly installed inverter is a 1000 watt pure sine wave, a little much but now I have extra power to the 110 volt recipticle next to the TV. As for 12 volt TVs, I had to replace our TV so I installed a 43" Vizio HD smart TV. My Direct receiver places recorded TV shows and our Blur Ray home stereo 5.1 does great.

I didn't look. For some reason they upped the reefer inverter to 2000w in 2014 or 2015, so that is what I have, but I installed an additional 1000w unit as well.

I heard the same thing about FR upping it to 2000 watts. Would have made things easier.
Fortunately I found someone that was selling a new Xantrex prowatt 1000 watt inverter for 80 bucks. Transfer switch was only 49 bucks.

If you examine most flat screen TVs, they are designed to operate on 12 volts DC. If it has a power pack in the cord, or in the 120 volt plug, chances are excellent that it is of this design. Check the TV data plate carefully, it will tell you what it is made for. Likewise, most computer monitors work from a direct connection to 12 volts, even though they have a plug in cord. In my '14 Sunseeker, the Jensen TV is directly connected to 12 volts.

Of course if they have a power supply on the cord, but most consumer electronics products do not. These are home units, not small portables.

I have an Ensignia TV that has a converter on the cord. The input on the TV is labeled 12v. I thought about switching out the 120v Furrion TV in the MH but I am not sure if the Ensignia is designed for rough use like the Furrion is. I needed to add a small pure sine wave inverter for the Directv receiver anyway so I left the Furrion in. The Furrion does have a great picture.

As Many have mentioned there is another thread that indirectly addresses this issue. The most practical solution would be to get a second Xantrex Transfer switch, and add the non-GFCI circuits to what you power with the inverter you will already have in the coach...Depending on how comfortable you are with electricity, it is a pretty easy modification that you will enjoy during the moderate temperature months.

Yes, that is what I have decided to do. The current inverter has plenty of room to do what I need to do. Already ordered the switch, and it will be here today. That will be done as soon as I get my Rig. Thanks!
