2021 GT7 50 amp surge protector

For you GT 7 owners
Does the 21 model year GT7 36D & 36K come with a factory installed surge protector or are you using an in-line at the pedestal?
Thanks

Do you understand the difference between a "surge protector" and an "EMS" (electrical management system)? If not: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/for...ml#post5598522

The RVIA was supposed to require a mandatory "open neutral" protection for all new RV's built as of some date in 2020 but that is only a fraction of what an EMS does.

I have a hard-wired EMS in my GT5.

I have an inline "EMS" (50 amp Arcon) it provides full spectrum detection and protection, just checking if the new coaches have a hardwired "EMS" or still using the inline versions. Using old school vernacular of a "surge protector" is no longer accurate got it!

Thanks for the response.

The model 19666? That appears to protect against nothing but surges. It lights lights if it detects faults but their docs use the word "detect" for those conditions. Are you sure it will cut the power off in the event of a fault?

It may be to soon for many 2021 owners to chime in on this.
Your best bet would be to check with a dealer.
On the Forest River website, there is a caution that due to supply problems, on many rigs options may vary. ( I know that I saw it when browsing, but can't find the model I saw that on right now.)
On a personal note, we use a portable EMS unit so that we can test the campsite post before we get set up.

Hi,
We purchased a surge protector for our 2021 GT7 36D. We thought it best to be cautious rather than sorry later.

Did you share pics of your rig?

I don’t have a motorhome but I do have a Progressive Industries hard wired 50 Amp EMS. I recent bought this to check the pedestal before we even back into a site. So now I have the security of a hard wired EMS and a simple, portable pedestal checker.

Thanks for the recommendation Itat. After doing a little a little research on the Progressive Industry item you mention, I noticed that you can also buy the unit you have illustrated with a surge monitor. (See attached photo). I wonder if it worth paying the extra $28?

Since I have the hard wired EMS I that monitors the incoming power, I just wanted the tester to check the pedestal wiring and voltage before I bother to do any setup. I would suggest either a portable EMS or a hard wired one. Popular brands are Progressive Industries, Southwire and Hughes Autoformer has one, too. Newer models have Bluetooth connectivity.
