351ds propane tank

I have a 351ds and scheduled to have the propane tank replaced on Monday Feb 26th because the valve won't shut off. The dealer asked me to burn off and use up the propane left in the tank. I've been running the heat and a grill outside. But I was wondering what happens if the furnace is on and the propane runs out? Does the fan and igniter continue to run ? Has anyone ever run a propane tank "dry" ? What happens ?

The heater will attempt to ignite 3 times then it will go off and stay off until it gets reset. It will not continue to try and start.

I would either try 2 things. Turn off the thermostat for 5 minutes or pull the 12 volt fuse for 5 minutes. When I ran out of propane and the heaters tried to ignite, after 3 times trying to start they quit trying to start. I ended up pulling the 12 volt fuse and waited for 5 minutes, that did the trick.

Hmmm. I wish there was a manual for all this stuff. Where's the fuse? Is it on the furnace ?

In the 12 volt fuse panel. My 12 volt fuse panel is right next to the 120 volt breaker panel. Pull the front cover off and you will see a line of "car" type fuses. Locate the heater fuse and pull straight our. Wait 5 minutes then reinsert. Turn on the heater and it should try to light. Before you try the heater turn on a stove burner and light. This will purge the gas line and help with the heater because the line may have air in it.

I had the same problem last year, with a full LP tank. It would have taken a long time to burn that off and the valve was leaking and wouldn't shut off. Took it to a propane dealer that burned off propane externally with a big torch mounted on a stand, connected to about a 40' hose. He then replaced the valve with a better made valve, refilled my tank and I was on the road in less than 4 hours. The bill for the repair was under $100, I was out of warranty, but sent bill to Forest River and they reimbursed me anyway. I think because of the safety issue. Just thought I'd give you another option. Good luck with the repair.

The valve isn't leaking but I can't shut it off. Dealer is replacing the whole tank under warranty so I'm not complaining. If I was out of warranty id have done like you did and go with a propane company

Ok so update. Was at dealer yesterday. They replaced the entire propane tank, valve and regulator. Everything works great now.
