Managed to get the seal replaced on our bedroom slide yesterday. What I thought was going to be a 30-minute job turned out to be about an hour and a half and I only replaced the lefthand side.
Removal was simple enough, just started at the bottom and began pulling outwards from the flange. Installation on the other hand was a bit harder. While not difficult from a mechanical point of view as it just presses onto the flange between the two beads of the seal, access, alignment, and PITA factor were present! Ultimately, once I figured out a plan on how to keep the seal from twisting and to work my fingers behind the wiper portion, along with a bit of WD40 for lube, it went fairly well. I probably spent half an hour on the first 6 inches until I figured out the plan. After that it went pretty quick.
Basically, I ended up starting at the bottom and working my way up. I eventually ran a bit of WD40 along the joint of the seal that pressed over the flange, along with a bit on the flange. Then, getting my fingers behind the wiper portion pressed the seal onto the flange. Sounds simple right? With a lot of twisting and pushing it is.
It is certainly an "owner doable" maintenance item.
I ordered a 10' section and received about 12' and it was less than $60 delivered.
Forgive the orientation of the pictures, too lazy to adjust.
Today I'm installing a Roadmaster 9400 braking system in our Lincoln MKZ. (toad) I'm sure that's going to be even less fun...
