Anyone replaced the loser kitchen window pleated shade with the Irvine roller shades?
For who knows what reason, the shade over the kitchen sink window does not have the dual tan opaque roller shade and the black roller sun shade and it's the only window that doesn't use the Irvine shades.
It has a "string" on each side and you stick your fingers in the channel in the white bar and pull it down and push it up with the "string" as the guide.
It actually has two sections, the lower, thinner pleating and an upper thicker pleating so you can get a bit more light blocking but it's still not full blocking. If the top pleated section was black it actually might block light but it's not.

These shades are not blackout shades just privacy shades and are installed on many rigs. Why wait pull them down and install the shade/blackout you want and post how you did it on the forum.

I'm actually hoping someone from FR sees this, realizes I'll be at the FROG Rally in two weeks, and offers to "surprise" me by replacing it for free.
Either that or I started on the Margarita's too early today.

You better pack lots of Margarita's to drink while waiting on your "surprise"

I believe those aren't code. That's why there are always venetian blinds on the galley window.

That would be false hope.
While a couple FR folks do have some participation on this site, (on their on accord) it is not affiliated nor monitored by FR in any way.

Shades.
I wish I had those on my regular windows. I had funky, old fashioned roller shades, in which the spring broke so they would not go up. I replaced with curtains. I like the top down bottom up design much better.
I have a regular metal slat window shade over the sink, which is okay.

Those are what came on all my windows, and not being a vampire, I don't need my Forester totally blacked out.
I have however given thought to replacing them with mini blinds, for more ease of operation.

Hmmm, then FR messed up on another GT5 we saw because they have the Irvine shades.

While the former is accurate, Brian Clemens and other FR management personnel said they have assigned people to specifically monitor these forums to get a heads-up on issues and maybe lend a helping hand. Last I heard it was just the motorized divisions doing it, though. On a few of the forums they've announced their presence and offered assistance. Hopefully that effort was not discontinued.

Interesting! I was wondering why this was my one window with Venetian blinds.

I wonder what "code" requires it. I could barely shove a cooking pot out my small window much less my own "pot".
Maybe it's an RVIA thing, like not requiring that an RV's tires have any weight safety margin at all until near the end of 2018. Or maybe it's like their surprise inspection program of RV manufacturers that they are so proud of...

lol. Maybe fabrics near flame source is verboten. Plus, why would they put a fabric type thing near where food spatters on a stove. Sounds like a plan my old bosses would approve of.

That must be it. Mine is directly behind the kitchen sink and with plasticy bars, with the stove over a foot to the right of the sink. Because plastic never burns or produces noxious/toxic smoke.
If the fire gets over to the sink I've got a lot bigger problems than the wrong type of blind.
Still, it is an interesting question.

We have those two-color pleated shades on the Cherokee 38P destination trailer and love them. They have tracks on the sides, not string suspension, so they don't swing around if you are on the road. They are on every window but the kitchen. Apparently one of the former owners splashed something on them and replaced them with a more conventional blind.
I'd love to have the matching original type for the kitchen. Should you decide to replace it, let me know what you would take for it.
