Apps and web pages on the road

I am compiling a list of apps and web addresses that are useful on the road. There are many. I would like some suggestions of favorites from other campers.
I like Waze for real time traffic, Good Sam and KOA for campsites, reservations.gov for national forest campsites, , IRV2 is a good camper blog, Back country navigator for hiking maps and gps coordinates, geeks on tour for tech info, and of course Frog and this forum. Any suggestions ?

We've not seen the "Mountain Directory..." website or app before. I'm very interested in it. Do you use the app? Or do you just access the information from the website? If you use the app, is it updated as needed? As in, do you feel the information is current enough to rely on? Thanks.

I use RV Park Reviews for honest appraisals of campgrounds. In fact, its become my first place to find an RV park when I'm on the road. Unfortunately, they don't have a smart phone app yet, so you'll need your laptop.

I also use the History Here app from the History Channel. It's a good way to find interesting historic places to visit when on the road.

I've downloaded the app just for the east directory so far. The info is accurate as far as the roads I have traveled which to be honest is not many of of what I would consider worrisome grades. I will be downloading the west app when I take my trips out west.

Basically you need to download the app or the ebook. There is no info just online. The maps in either case download to your device so you have them even if not connected to Internet.

If you read the story of how this directory was developed I think you can see this person is serious about the information and the reviews are all good.

Money back quarantee but that does not help you you find yourself in a run a way lane... At least you should know where it is...

The app maps are a little funny looking ( you can see them on their website) but they are completely adequate. Just look at the area of the country and the road you will be traveling. If there is a yellow triangle with a number, select it and it will tell you the details about the grade, where run a way lanes are and any other pertinent information you need to know.

Some people think it costs to much but in the scheme of things it is peanuts and if I can avoid a road that could put me and my family in danger then it is worth every penny.

We took a trip to Nashville, then to Kentucky to do the Bourbon Trail then to Ashville then to Western North Carolina. It was nice to know I did not need to worry about the roads I was traveling and which ones to avoid. Hope this helps.. Also you asked if it is current an updated.. My thought is that those long dangerous grades have been there for a long time and surely don't change, at least not very often..

Pilot/flying J fuel is one of the best for me. On the site you can route your trip to see where all the Pilot / flying J stations are. The route gives you distance to stations so you can plan your fuel stops. I use Flying J as much as possible. Most have dedicated RV fuel lanes, propane, and dump stations. Makes it easy to fuel up and get out of the station. You can also spend the night in their RV parking places. I have the Good Sam deluxe member card so I also get a discount on fuel and propane. I also use RV overnight for locations of free overnight parking. Walmart is a good place to spend the night.

I have found that I can save a lot of money on fuel by getting to my camp site, unhitching, and finding a gas station with GasBuddy. You pay a premium at Luv's, Pilot, and other "truck stops".

You are right, but my Good Sam Deluxe card saves me $.05 on gas and $.10 on propane. I am traveling with a 37 foot motor home with a tow dolly loaded with a Ford Escape so backing up is not an option. When traveling I usually stop at a Walmart or Flying J for the night and do not want to drop the tow just to get fuel. The dedicated fuel lanes are nice and wide and situated where you can pull in and pull out with easy.
I should also mention, I use Google Earth when routing a trip. I look at fuel stops and campgrounds so I usually know the layout of things before I leave home. We all, at one time or another, have booked a campground based on the their photos, only to get their to discover with horror that the photos fell way short of your expectations. Google Earth is great for getting a birds eye view of things. After all RVing is supposed to be an easy laid back experience. The less surprises the better.
