Angry Awning over the door.

On my 2020 Georgetown gt5 34 h5. It has two outside awnings on the passenger side. One over the back side of the coach and one over the entrance door. The awning over the entrance door blows a fuse every time I try to open it. I have brought it back to the dealer 4 times now and they tell it's fixed only to get to the next camp site and find that it doesn't work. The dealer puts in a new fuse and assumes that its going to work but it never does. I know there is a short somewhere but they don't seem to want to trouble shoot the problem. What can I do to try to remedy this ongoing problem?

1. do you know where the fuse is and can you change it out?

2. If it is a 15 amp fuse ( for instance) buy a 20 amp ( 5 amp, then buy a 10 amp, etc.) replace the bad fuse with the next larger size.

3. If it blows again, chances are it is a dead short... in other words no fuse will work, however if the slightly larger fuse works, then the awning may be binding or causing it to pull more power then it should.

4. Look over the awning for binding points that may need lube or something to work better.

5. If it is a dead short, then demand it be fixed and TEST it before leaving the next time.

Thanks for the information. I changed it from a 20 to a 25 and it worked. I opened it several times to make sure. Will it be ok to keep the 25 in all the time now? Is it safe?

well... fuses are in the circuit to protect either wiring inside the camper OR the item that is fused... in this case the awning motor... they are sized to handle the load but not much more... so they blow to protect one or both of those items...

If this was my problem, then I would certainly put a critical eye on it and try not to overload the circuit... you kind of did that opening and closing several times in succession... HOWEVER it worked and that is a GOOD thing...

If the fuse and associated wiring is accessible then feel the wire with a damp fingertip ( damp to transmit heat better and give you a better feel for any temp change) and fuse for any signs of overheating. If you can't feel anything change from ambient, I think you will be good... UNTIL IT BLOWS again at the higher amp 25 amp fuse... then I would go more in-depth troubleshooting.

PS... I might ALSO try to find another 20 amp fuse like your STOCK fuse only a SLO-BLOW model, ( not a fast blow fuse) and put that in the circuit. That way you will still have 20 amp protection but it may just give you the margin of safety the original fuse gave you.

I searched amazon for 20 amp slow blow fuse and a dozen showed up...

Good luck and I hope this works out.
