If they're
not sealed Lead Acid batteries and have the caps shown in the Wally Whirled Everstart battery, carefully pry the caps open, and I'd check the water level in them if they aren't regularly maintained. There usually is a "ring" in each cell's fill hole that shows where the water level should be. Fill only with distilled water (! $1.00 per gallon at Wally Whirled).
Then, if they're still not holding a charge, Lone Ranger them (ta-da-dump, ta-da-dump, ta-da-dump-dump-dump-dump - William Tell Overture here).
