Best awd SUV towed vehicle under 5000 pounds

I am sure this will start quite a back and forth, but my wife wants a pretty "from a female perspective"awd SUV. Getting grandkids in car seats etc, and driving over snow in the winter. It needs to be under 5000lbs, and towable all wheels down. My price point is low $20,000 range and doesn't have to be new.
Thanks for your wisdom and experience. We are starting a new life, soon to be retired and free to travel.
Ron

We towed Lincoln MKX for many miles. Same as the Ford Edge. Both AWD and towed 4 down. We also towed a Jeep Wangler. Wife did not like it. It was 2 door and too hard to get in back. Now Towing Chevy Equinox 2017. The 2018 is not towable. There also has been some problems with the equinox in the tow mode. Jeep was the best in my opinion. No speed limit on the transmission.

My wife loves the Chevrolet Equinox midsize SUV and it is towable.
Search Motor Home Magazine Dinghy guide, every year they publish a new one and it is printable on line.

The 2018 is not towable. They changed the transmission for the 2018 year. I checked with several people including the dealership and Chevrolet and that model is not towable. That's the reason that we bought a 2017 so that we could tow it.

We bought in January a 2014 CR-V Honda suv. Seats 5 comfortably and large area in back for hauling things. AWD and under 4000 lbs. Had just come off lease, loaded, low miles paid around 20,000. This was the last year, 2014 for CR-V that could be flat tow. Love the car drives and handle great. Tows great no problems. We have the Blue Ox tow bar and Brake Buddy. Good luck.

We tow a 2016 Ford Edge with the V-6 engine. Great in the winter, tow 4 down and don't know it's even behind us going down the road in our Georgetown 369 XL.

Jeep wrangler unlimited (so 4-door) but you'd have to buy an older one to get under that $20K budget.
We love ours, and it's super easy to tow.

Tow SUV

We purchased a New 2017 Subura Crosstrek manuel 5 speed AWD with all the warranty $22,000 OTD .. You have to leave the key in the on position for the electronic steering so you need a lead wire from the 7 pin to battery to keep charged .. Transmission in neutral and she tows great.

Hate to be the spoiler here, but I was always on the impression that towing an AWD vehicle messed up the transfer case. Don't AWDs need to be flatbedded? I realize that some jeeps have release mechanisms, but I don't think that is what the OP is talking about here.

We tow 2014 Honda CRV. Last year that you can tow CRV 4 down. Hardly know it is there. Paired up with blue ox baseplate and tow bar. Went with Invisibrake braking system, a little more hassle getting it installed but much more reliable than other systems. Did all installations myself which although difficult not really that bad. Invisibrake and blue ox both have online videos to help installs. Actually took tablet out to shop and followed instructions while doing install, rewind forward and back many times, how convenient is that?. Love having that car when we arrive at destination.
