Black Tank Cleaner Recipe

Hi all, what is the recipe for black tank cleaner? I have seen it on this forum in the past so I know it's out there among you all. Thanks

If you are talking about the GEO method, *HERE* is their web site.

From the get go; water, followed by water and finally followed by more water.

I use the Blue Streak and mix equal parts of SuperClean, Pinesol and water. When we leave a campground to go home, I use the tank sprayer until I get clear water, close the valve and dump about 1/2 gal of SuperClean, 1/2 bottle of Pinesol and about 2 gal of water, tow home and leave it until we go camping again. No smell. Keep water/SuperClean/Pinesol in the toilet so nothing dries out. Flush about once a month if I remember.

This is what I do routinely, then after closing the valve I add a couple gallons of water mixed with Happy Camper which I find really helps to break up the solids for more efficient dump. A couple times a year I do the Geo method. We are looking into a 5th wheel and when we finally decide and get one, I will be replacing the toilet with a composting toilet, in large part to eliminate the wasteful amount of water required to do a thorough cleaning.

I use the hamster method

I put 2 hamsters in 2 hamster balls with brill o pads attached to the outside. In between trips I let them run around in the black tank to clean it.

We've used the Geo Method for several years and never had any issues. Unfortunately, finding Calgon Water Softener is getting very difficult here in Ontario, Canada and ordering off Amazon.ca is very expensive. So when the current supply of Calgon runs out I'll have to either try OC's method (we can get Super Clean and Pinesol readily) or I'll have to pick some up in the US when I cross the border to pickup one of my Amazon.com orders.

Before we head out to our next stop, I put a healthy amount (about 1/8 to 1/4 cup) of blue Dawn Dishwasher Soap down the toilet along with a gallon of water or so. then when we get to our next location, we empty the tank. You'd be surprised at the amount of "stuff" that comes out. It works great! We use it also in our Galley and Grey tanks as well. Finally get our sensors to register empty.

Meijer stores in the Cincinnati area are carrying the liquid Calgon. I bought a bottle there about 3 weeks ago.

Remember the ad copy, "if it won't come clean with super clean, it won't come clean".

Purple power is exactly the same, but cheaper. Works great on tires.

OC, do you use Super Clean and Pinesol in the grey tank, too? My grey tank sensors aren't getting cleaned using the Geo Method.

We use PineSol and Calgon Bath Beads. My wife mixes 7 cups of PineSol with 7 cups of water, and then adds 1 cup of Calgon Beads. You can get everything at Walmart.

Calgon bath beads and Calgon water softener (commonly used in the GEO method) are two completely different things.

Not saying your method doesn't work... just saying.

Bath beads ingredients:
Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarboante, Sodium Sesquicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Water (Aqua), Fragrance (Parfum), Mineral Oil/Paraffinium Liquidium/Huile Minerale, Isopropyl Palmitate, Sodium Polyphosphate, Cocamidopropylamine Oxide, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Asparticacid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate, Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090).

Water softener active ingredients: zeolite and polycarboxylate
