Brakes Cost
Have my Georgetown in for the annual safety inspection as I write this. The shop called and told me I need new rear brakes, just under 26K miles. I do tow my wife's car on a dolly. Shop foreman told me the right caliber was hung up and I was "metal on metal". Question, does $1000 for a rear brake job sound outrageous to fellow GT owners? Price includes new seals, re-surface existing rotors, pads of course and labor which they priced at $450.

Maybe you can have him do the front for $400 more and repack front bearings.. That would be $1,400 part and labor is reasonable.
To do all 4 brakes my estimate is...
Ceramic Pads are about $75 a set x 4 = $300
Turning Rotors I'm guessing $50 each x 4 = $200
Flush Brake Fluid $50
$550 total material and the rest Labor?
See what he says? Like to know the estimate.
300

Thanks Iggy. I told the foreman go ahead, I trust him, I've been taking my rig to the same place since I had my Allegro, 10 yrs.,. He gave me the cost breakdown of everything but when I posted the thread all I could remember of the breakdown was the rotor re-surface at $45 each and the total appx. $1000. First time I have had to have breaks done on either of my class A's and the $1000 sorta shocked me at first. He did tell me that the other side, street, had 40% left but it was the stuck caliber that caused the job now

So is that for the rear axle only or all wheels?

Rear axle only. Said the front's are fine and no need to replace now. The stuck caliber is what necessitated the rear brake job now, totally wearing away the right side, curb, pads down to metal on metal as he put it. I had the rig in the same shop prior to our trip to South Dakota in July and everything looked good then.

Brakes Cost
My brakes were screeching like crazy at 29,000 miles so I took my 2016 GT 369 XL in to get checked out. Told me I still had about 70% left on the pads but they could have "shined up" from excessive heat on hills. (I've been over and back on the smokey mountains 5 times but always try to downshift to slow down). As I didn't want to take any chances, and was tired of being stared at when stopping, I went ahead and had them all replaced. Said they used aftermarket vs OEM parts to save money. Cost was about $2,400 total.
Front severe duty pads. $192
2 front rotors. $317
2 front seals. $290
Front labor. $374
Front total: $1,172
2 rear rotors. $337
2 rear seals. $192
Rear pads. $191
Rear labor: $499
Rear total: $1,219
Let me know if anyone has questions. Had it done by a local car/truck/RV shop that forest river had me use for alignment a couple years ago so hopefully they know what they are doing. I felt confident with them.

Great Information for everyone. Too bad you only had 29,000 miles.
I have 60,300 on my 2012 and they said it would be ready in another 10,000 miles for a brake job.
Good idea to do an all around brake job especially driving the Rocky's.
Next year looks like my time and Ford Commercial Truck repair shop gave me a ball park figure of $2,500. So you are in the same ballpark on costs.
So I'm guess they...
Repacked the front wheel bearing and installed seals.
And the rear
They also installed new seals. Did that also include adding oil to the differential? I think it would leak out when you remove the axles seal.
Did they flush all the brake fluid out with new?
Did the rotor really need to be replaced or where did they resurface them?
What type of brake pads? Ceramic?
All Ford Parts?
Just curious.

The $1200 for the rear is close, I think mine a bit more, to my job. However, I only had one rotor replaced and the caliber, which froze and caused the failure. The other side they resurfaced the rotor, which I prefer, for $45. Pads were like $155 and new seals too, don't remember the cost. Labor for all was about $550

Not really a mechanic so I wasn't aware of these items. I do know he said aftermarket parts as opposed to ford. I'll have to ask on the other items

Wife had one done. One rear caliper froze on Taurus just over $500 to repair.
