Broken Windshield

Hi y 'all,

Has anyone ever had a Windshield crack after 2,600 miles? We purchased a 2018 31L5 with 1,200 miles and took our 1st trip this last week of 300 miles and while packing up to leave found a stress crack along the word Georgetown at the top of the windshield. No impact from road debris etc., just a crack. Did not know if anyone else has have this issue or if there was any structural issues to cause this.
Thank you.
Bill

Our 2011 Georgetown we purchased in 2016 has not had a windshield problem whatsoever! Sorry to hear of your problem. Good luck with getting it fixed!

This isn't going to be a lot of help but we had a rock kick up in North Dakota and crack the windshield near the bottom center on our first long trip in June. Made a half dollar size star. Other than being bummed, I was sure it was going to splinter more as we still had 2300 miles to go on that trip in a variety of temperatures. Fortunately, it never got worse. Had Safelite do a fix when we got home and it's still going strong.

Since 2001 have owned four MHs.Replaced 3 windsheilds. Two caused by rocks from the road. One caused by stress which was on a new DP MH.Returing it to Tiffin they stated it had not been installed correctly at the time it was built. It doesn't take much of a hit to cause a problem on those large windshields.A small unnoticed rock hit will start the problem.

We had a similar thing happen on our new coach and I thought it was a stress crack, but when the installer took off the moulding there was a rock chip that we couldn’t see. Ran clear across the window but it took 24,000 more miles to do it. They’re certainly rock magnets.

I took my 2004 Georgetown ts 370 in for services and new tires last year. When I went to pick it up the right side windshield was shattered at the extreme right lower corner. Glass pieces were clear across my dash. Of course the place where I had the work done said it was from the heat. I paid my deductible of $250. and let my insurance company get it fixed. The person that put the windshield in said it looked like an impact hit. At least I have the two piece windshield. I don't recommend the truck repair place that did the work in O'Fallon, Mo. Their name starts with a K and is right off highway 70. They service Rv's and over the road truckers. It took over a month to get it replace as the first windshield they sent was cracked.
Good luck with your windshield!

I have 2 stars on my windshield, one from Arkansas and one from British Columbia. I got Safelite to treat them and so far they have not expanded. It was 3 years ago.

Mine was $3000 including everything. I paid deductible and insurance covered the rest. From my first call to the insurance company to finished install was six days counting shipping. It took about five hours total.

Yep on the insurance. I made to sure to get full glass coverage when we got ours. Between the full one piece windshield and all the thermonpanes, I wasn’t taking any chances. And I bought ours with a star right in the drivers view. It had the chip repair done prior and it hasn’t moved.

UPDATE Thanks to all for the replies. Picked it up today and is looking good. Paid the deductible of $500 and saved approx. $2500 to replace it.
Again Thanks!

Glad to see this post. We were scheduled to pu our new 36B5 about 4 weeks ago when the dealer called to say that they had discovered a crack in the windshield. When we went to see the crack for ourselves, it had started up by the Georgetown logo, went down a little and then across and down to the bottom - what you would expect from a stress crack.
Anyway, the original crack occurred while the mh was just sitting in a parking lot. Granted, temps here in Texas were at 100+ everyday so that might have been a contributing factor. Or perhaps the bigger, 1 piece "automotive bonded" windshield has some built in issues?
We pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully this windshield issue is just a fluke.

Had the windshield delaminate on my 2015/Georgetown XL 377TS. Was replaced under warranty. No problems since. The shipping company did break the first replacement one they sent to my dealer so had to wait another week for a new one to be sent. The windshield manufacturer is only 25 miles from my dealer yet it took a week to ship it 25 mikes. Lol

Hope mine goes as quick as Igave. Mine cracked sitting in the driveway the other day. Been 2 days since calling insurance company. Haven’t heard back about a replacement date yet.

Well it didn’t go quite as planned. Start to finish took a month. Now I have to take it back because it leaks!

What is the name of your insurance company. My windshield is not covered and it is too expensive with that type of coverage.
