If I were to do this, I'd put it in the bathroom, most likely in the shower, and prop the door open.

We put ours in front of passenger seat after we arrive at our site, it's out of the way and no one sees it. During travel it's behind passenger seat, we have a 378.

I should clarify it's actually behind passenger seat, after we arrive at site I turn our passenger seat around so technically it's behind seat, between seat and dash.

In our class A we used to keep it in the slide area right behind the driver seat.
We had always wondered if she ever used the box while we were in motion.
Then one night about 3am while driving we found out sure enough, yes she uses the box.
Let me tell you, you can’t drive fast enough to out run the smell!

Now with the 5er we keep it in the hallway (pic below).
We don’t keep it in the p/u while driving. As it turns out she tells us she needs to go by walking back & forth between us & whining.
At that point we pull over & we all head back to the 5er for a pit stop.

with the bathroom vent open and the fan on.

But if you stop giving them food or water a day before your trip, they won't need to go to the bathroom at all

You didn't state what model RV you have, but, we put the litter box inside the storage area located at the bottom of the wall in the toilet room. We just leave the door open enough for the cat to get thru. She seems to like the privacy.

We used to put the litter box in the footwell of the passenger seat under the dash once we were set up. After having built the sliding tabletop on the dash, we use this location for our office/laptop area, so we positioned the litterbox under the kitchen dinette table......there's only the two of us, so there's space. It was always the location when were underway, so the location doesn't change for them anymore.

Lol, I've never tried that. Heaven forbid the food bowl even gets low around here, they don't have any problem letting me know... Even if its at 3AM.

My questions for all you cat owners are: 'how long do you travel for?' and 'does anyone bring their cat along when just going away for 7 days or so?'

Also, in my trailer I would put the litter box in a bottom bunk (mattress removed), and enclose it so the dog could not 'snack' on it (ewww).

I just can't picture eating a sandwich and having a cup of coffee over the top of a litter box!

Best Regards,

To answer the question about taking cats, we have two cats and a dog and they go everywhere we go if it's for 2 days or 2 wks. I must say it's much easier in the motorhome than it was in truck pulling a fifth wheel.

I put the litter box between the bed and the back wall of the coach. Keeping it here keeps it away from where we eat and out of site. I keep it very clean so I don't smell it when I sleep. It also keeps the litter that gets kicked out contained in this small area so I can vacuum it up easier. And there are a couple of good hiding spots nearby for early on in the trip.

We only take the two cats when we're going for more than a couple of nights. One of our cats enjoys it. He's the one you see in the pictures. The other cat is very nervous and doesn't like it much but he climbs up under the covers of the bed and goes to sleep after the first hour or so.

My experience traveling with cats has always been that the first hour or two is nerve wracking. Sometimes even the first four hours. But eventually they adapt and settle down.

The only other disadvantage is when it's hot out and we want to go out for the day. I worry about the cats locked up in the motorhome when we go out and we're parked somewhere without shore power so no AC. Even to go into the store for grocery shopping on a 100 degree day. So I'll open the vents, turn on the fans and crack a window here or there. But it'll still gets warm inside and it would easier to break into the motorhome with the windows cracked. The cats seem to do OK but it does make me hurry through things sometimes in the hot part of the summer. I could leave the generator running and the AC going but I can't bring myself to do so for safety reasons.

Enjoy the attached pictures of our younger cat asleep on the dashboard on a hot day. He slept here while we where driving for several hours in the sun coming through the dash. His favorite place to ride seems to be right against the front window watching the world go buy. However it took about three days of traveling before he discovered this spot.

We put our covered litter box on the right of the walkway across from the fridge directly under the fantastic fan. There arent too many good places to put it but at least over there you can fan out the smell untill you scoop out the solid.
