Coach Batteries

My coach batteries slowly lose their charge while I am on external 50 amp service. The coach batteries only fully charge when charged off the engine alternator. I have run the generator for 4 hours and the coach batteries get to 75 percent charged. Any ideas what this may be an early symptom of?

Sounds to me like your converter, that charges the batts when you are on shore power is loosing it..have the output of the converter checked. The other reason may be that you have old batts and they are sulfated. Old batts are hard to charge and the alternator on the engine puts out a hefty amount but the converter does not thus...the batts get a better shot with the alternator. My money would be on your converter not working properly.

I'm with polkatronron!
possibility of weak or bad charger and bad batterys.
depending on how many batteries you have and how low they are it may take days to charge with a good charger.
Most coaches have an inverter / charger.
I just put one in my employer s coach for same reason.
$1,000 bill

Wondering what converter you have? If its a Parallax I'd replace it with an Intelli-Power PD4655. Its a direct replacement for the Parallax and has a much better 4 stage charger (charge wizard). You can look at them at bestconverter.com. Only runs $205. I'm going to replace my Parallax soon and mine is working ok. These 4 stage chargers are much better for your batteries.
