Combining black & grey tanks in Georgetown
I installed a composting toilet in my Forest River Georgetown 2012 gas class A; it has a urine diverter, which goes into the black tank. I was told i could combine the two tanks with a Valterra ? gate valve, but someone else said that would not work on a class A, soooo is it possible to combine the tanks And how ?
There is NO sewage in the black tank, just urine and water, but I’d like to not have to continually add water into the composting toilet to possible spill into the composting material.

I don't understand how combining the tanks eliminates the need to use the toilet diverter are you planning on peeing in the shower? tanks can be plumbed together it just depends on how handy you are with plumbing abs pipe or hose.

I’m not handy at all, I can’t drive a nail, screw or saw straight, I was hoping for an easy, not complicated way of doing this.

ive seen people simply add a secondary gate valve at there exit pipe and open the other two valves and the tanks back fill each other.

Sorry, but if you are diverting urine into the existing black tank then you have sewage. I would not recommend mixing with your gray tank as then you would no longer have a gray tank but one large black tank.

whether you are on septic or sewer at home it all goes to the same place. I love the idea that gray water is somehow clean. I have smelled some nasty grey water before and it is by no mean clean. Hense most campgrounds have rules about dumping it on the ground.

Do you have a separate output for your tanks or do you dump from one output and select which tank by opening a valve?
If your tanks dump in one location then you can use the Valterra valve on the output and open both valves.

My gray and black water tanks use the standard Y-valve setup:
I added the extra Valterra valve on the outlet. With showers my gray tank will hit 2/3 to Full before my black gets to 1/3. I open the gray valve, followed by the black valve briefly (then shut black then gray) to backfill the black from the gray to get another day of showers out of the gray tank.
I would not put urine in the gray tank, either by diverting the toilet or by peeing in the shower.
I also like to do a little bit black flushing when I am at the dump station:
1. Open the common outlet valve.
2. Open the black tank drain valve, let it drain completely.
3. Close the common outlet valve. Open the gray valve to backflush into the black tank.
4. Close gray, open common outlet valve again, drain black tank.
5. Open gray valve so all are open now and everything completes draining.
6. Close black, grey, then common outlet valve and unhook.

Not sure why you wish to do this urine is sewage and black waste.
The older campers only had one tank for waste period. So one black tank, no grey tank, just one for both . Not a big deal if you wish to do it though.

You have urine in the black water tank and that is 'sewage'. If you combine the two tanks, you'll be putting the urine into the grey water tank and contaminating that tank perhaps getting the resulting smell throughout your rig.
Do you have a black tank flush on that Class A? Using that would clean the black tank and you wouldn't have to add additional water through the composting toilet.
Your composting toilet will obviously eliminate the need to dump it often, but it won't increase the capacity of the grey water tank as long as you're dumping urine into the black water tank.
Now if you weren't dumping urine into the black water tank, then you could use the Valtera valve to increase the grey water capacity.

Can I ask, out of curiosity, why did you install a composting toilet in your RV?

I was wondering the same thing, but I knew I'd hate myself for asking...
