Question Direct TV splitter

We are in a campground where I had to place our Direct TV dish about 150 feet from the motorhome. I used a splitter from Radio Shack to run a cable to the front tv and one to the rear tv. In the past I just used 2 cables from the dish to my connections on the camper. I got a signal strength of 96%, then when I hooked up the other tv cable to the splitter it only gave me half the channels, I got the History channel but not H2. When I repeated the signal strength, I was reading 0%, but had a picture ! When I viewed the transponders I got 0, the next was 92. Every other reading was 0. I placed the splitter at the motorhome because of the long run. Is it too long of a run to the splitter and it is not strong enough to be split. Right now I just ran it to the front and I can get over the air channels.

Sounds like you still need to adjust your dish some. You're definitely close but not right on yet.

Some splitters cannot handle HD frequencies. You should do a Google search for directv splitter. There is a certain Mhz you need to make it work. Also 150' is a long run, but should be ok. Also some splitters can't pass power through it to the sat.

A splitter doesn't work to feed 2 boxes. The splitter blocks the 12 volts supplied to the LMB from the box. You need to run 2 separate cables from the dish, one to each box. If you remove the LMB it has 2 feeds for that purpose. I do it all the time.

What are your sat signal strengths reading?

When I set mine up I use the following procedure,
1- set the elevation on the dish for the location
2- level the dish on the tripod
3- with a compass find the rough azimuth.
4-turn the dish left to right slowly until the TV beeps faster.

Note: here is a tip I sent to Trailer Life for the dish. (The bottom one)

Pathways

I went through all that stuff until I bought the Pathways x2 by Winegard for my DISH network. They have same for Direct TV as well. I can be watching TV anywhere in 10 minutes on 2 TV's...same yourself energy and frustration and spend the money to buy the newest self locating satellite finders. Life is short. Enjoy!
