Extended Warranties

Hi all. I have never been a big fan of extended warranties on anything, but after forking out large $$ on recent repairs to the coach, I'm beginning to rethink that position as far as the RV goes.
I would welcome feedback from those of you who have or have had extended warranty plans and how they work for you.

Thanks in advance,
Rod B.

Hi Rod,

Same boat here - had some NASTY surprises on our TT and did not want the same "experiences" with the "Retirement Casa."

When we bought our 5er this year, we looked long and hard at the extended warranty. It looks tough to beat. $50 deductible at our dealer, $100 nationwide - ANY Forest River dealer and it covers fore to aft and all in between.

Nice to know we have a warranty for the next 6 years that will cover anything that will go wrong (tires too!) with our unit.

Here is a good example: Slide motor goes out. Repair/Replace + Labor (@ $129/HR ) is about $1,200.00. Policy is costing us $1,795.00.

Refer, A/C, black/gray/Galley tank cracks, electrics, and all the other things in a modern RV...my problem is going to be hoping I can find a extended warranty to cover the unit when THIS extended warranty runs out!

I've thought about it too. Priced a Good Sam policy, $500 deductible for 5 yrs at $4800. Covers almost everything. Not sure I'll do it though...

Have no interest in auto extended warranty but RV frig and ac replacement cost persuaded me to buy RV extended warranty. Bought 6 year thru route 66 for @ $2100.

I have www.WholesaleWarranties.com $ 50.00 deductible for 84 months at $ 1,200.00 total.
I found that this company covered more items than Good Sam ( read the items covered when comparing policies ).

We were going to do Good Sam unless anyone can sway me differently. I just put in for a quote from WholesaleWarranties.com. We'll see what they come back with. In the end... what can go wrong, WILL go wrong. Too many moving parts with these puppies!! :-)

I did get the extended warranty thru the dealer. it was $2600 for 7 years. However, if we decide to end the warranty contract early, we get the prorated amount back. I did that with the last TT is sold. I worked out well. Or, if we sell it, the extended warranty is transferable. Too many things break on these things. They don't have the quality standards or controls like the auto industry.

I have an extended warranty from Good Sam. I had the hydraulic levelers malfunction. I had to have the entire motor/pump assembly replaced. Cost was $2100; I had to pay the $100 deductible. If you have a slide that is cable controlled; they are a bear to replace.. Well worth the peace of mind.

We got our 7 year bumper to bumper with tire for 1200 bucks. Not sure if that's good or not. I can pretty much fix anything, but I'm only getting older. I figured if something big goes wrong like a slide out or the roof it would be worth it. Oh, and it also includes the windshield which is a pretty big one piece of glass.

Does anyone know of a company who will issue a warranty AFTER the initial extended warranty runs out?

Well that is good to know - I realize the warranty may be more expensive but one big ticket item going south usually pays the tab in full

It's the premium policy from Protective XtraRide. It was originally 2600, but we had an issue while doing paperwork and walked out, but the owner came out apologizing and gave us the policy for 1200 if we came back in. Don't know how reputable they are, but we'll see when we have to make the first claim.

We purchased our when we purchased the motorhome, since I had the warranty on my 5th wheel, the dealer included it in the price of the coach, heck of a deal, and its a 7 yr bumper to bumper including tires. Covers everything I feel that with the cost of these motorhomes its well worth the security knowing that if something happens its going to be covered. GoodSams does do extended warranties not sure on the costs.

Peace of mind is everything!!!!!

I too purchased an extended warranty. The above is true unless you run into problems with the company providing the warranty. Have read some horror stories about claims that were either denied or it took a long time to get the repairs done because their claims guy had to go and inspect the problem to see if they would cover it or they took forever to pay the claim.
I'm hoping that if I need the warranty that I don't run into any of these problems.
