First Trip

My new XL 369 did well on the first trip up the Texas Gulf coast. Added a little more to my short list for dealer to fix.
I cruised at a steady 2100 RPM. This worked out to about 56 to 58 MPH. The Gulf cost highways are reasonable flat. Mileage was between 6.3 and 6.8 MPG. I don't think that, that was too bad for a new engine. We were running lighter than normal. We were pulling the Lincoln MKX.
Over all am pleased.

Hey JBP, welcome from another newbie. We have a 2012 AWD Lincoln MKX and as I understand it, it should not be towed, at least not with all 4 on the ground. Is your MKX different and are you sure it's towable or am I misinformed?

Our Lincoln MKX is a front wheel drive 2013 . Several publications publish a list of vehicles that can be towed 4 wheels down. Motorhome magazine is one and FMCA (Family Motor Coach Avocation) is another. We are limited to 65mph when towing. That is not a problem for us. We usual cruise at 60mph. I have towed it for 2 years about 20,000 miles.
If you are a member family motor coach association you can get a back issue or contact them and they'll send you the information for the 2012 year. I believe you'll find that both models of the MKX can be towed four down. But I did not check on a 2012 just a 2013 and new. I don't think I looked this year but I believe this year can be towed with 4 wheels down also. Good luck happy traveling keep in touch

Thanks Jim & Pat. I double checked the dinghy guides I had downloaded from Motorhome mag. and I had apparently transposed the columns. Yes, my MKX is towable. Thanks again!

Glade that it is. What are you using to tow with and what aux braking system are you using? We are using the Blue Ox and Brake Buddy.

We have a 2012 Sunseeker 2250, a shorty class C on a Chevy 4500 chassis. We've only had it a month and haven't set it up for towing at all. If and when we do tow something, I'd prefer to tow my motorcycle (on a trailer), but we'll see what the DW says.

rebelle nice looking coach. We just traded our Itasca Cambria 27K for this class A. Pulled 14000 miles with the E450 ford no problems. Loved the size and maneuverability. Bike will be a lot more fun than a Lincoln. Most of us suggest several short trips. test everything out before the long ones. The bike should pull nicely.
You may start a new tread and ask questions about pulling a bike on a trailer.

You'll probably get a little better on the mileage towing, but not much. I tow a 4dr Jeep and feel good about 6.5-6.8mpg. Have been as low as 5.3mpg. All of this over several hundred miles in a day average. Unloaded you can expect to get better than the first few thousand miles. I went up about .6mpg overall and the engine quieted down considerably.

I have a 377XL and have gotten anywhere from 5.3 to 6.8 mpg. Did about 6000 mi. so far this year, most trips have been very hilly. I tow jeep liberty, 4 down. I jump for joy when I get over 6.5.

Milage sounds about what i expected. I was hoping that the 6 speed would help a little. My last class A I was happy with 5.5 to 5.8. Once crossing Kansas in a hurry running 75mph I was down to 4.2 with the wind behind me. Will not do that again. But the coach was steady at that speed. My normal cruise speed of 55 to 60 is a lot more comfortable.

I ran between 65-70 this past summer on a 5000 mile trip from OH to Custer/Yellowstone/Moab/Grand canyon and averaged 6.4 for the trip.
