Full Time w/ Cats - Litter Box Solution

Hi All!

Looking to get some advice on a renovation that I'd like to do to put my cat's litter box in a better spot on the RV. I have a Georgetown 34H5 (floor plan pictured below). I want to put the litter in a passthrough, preferably the one closest to the rear of the coach on the passenger side. I attached some pictures of others who have done this for reference. This would require a hole to be cut behind one of the dressers in the bedroom so that the cats can access the passthrough. Anything structurally that I should be thinking about? I need to find some diagrams that will show me where the wiring and piping is so that I can avoid cutting into something.

TIA!

Are there any drawers or cupboards REALLY CLOSE to where you think you’d be cutting through?
The drawers can be removed by extending them out as far as possible, then releasing the plastic wings on both sides to slide the drawers out completely.

This allows you to look in behind to see if there’s any wires or plumbing or heat ducts to be concerned with.

Here’s how…..

Attaching a picture I should've put in the initial post. Here is the exact area I'd like to put it. It's behind a pull-out drawer towards the rear of the coach on the passenger's side. Obviously I would want to avoid those wires in the picture when cutting, but feel I could cut a little further out from the wall to avoid those. Anything UNDERNEATH the floor that I should be looking out for, or are all wires run inside the coach and not on the underside?

I would use a hole saw and just cut through the floor. This should allow you to look and feel underneath and decide if it is ok and in what direction to proceed

Edit:
Even if someone else has done the same thing on the same model there is no guarantee things were routed the same on both units

In your picture, over to the left, it looks like the rear of a speaker in your rig.
If this is the rear of the wall you’re contemplating to cut a hole, what does it look like on the other side, where this speaker grill would be I presume?

If you cut a hole behind the drawer, and the drawer is back in position and closed, won’t the drawer block any hole you make?

Completely agree - no two units are alike!

That's correct, it's the back of a speaker that is on the outdoor entertainment center. I wouldn't be cutting a hole on the wall that the speaker is mounted in, but instead the floor underneath the speaker.

Good point about the drawer - I would have to cut a hole in a) Front of the drawer for cats to enter b) Bottom of drawer to align with hole in the floor when drawer is closed and c) The actual hole in the floor. An alternative would just be to take the drawer out entirely and leave the space open, but I feel we need the drawer space and can't really sacrifice losing it. On the other hand, how usable is a drawer that has a hole in the bottom of it (hmmmmm.....)?

Seriously? You’re that close to capacity that your can’t forfeit ONE drawer?
You got too much stuff to have a cat on board.
Maybe you need a bigger motorhome friend.

What model year do you have? Our 2020 has basement doors that are hinged on the forward edge, not the top.

I'd be more concerned about hitting one of the floor's aluminum structural members.

The 34H5 only has two smallish drawers in the bedroom so technically they would be giving up half of the drawers.

There are two shallow cabinets directly above the drawers plus a double-door cabinet at floor level in the center. None are deep or especially tall.

There are two large cabinets, one at each end of the bedroom but they are about 30" above the floor. If you have the combo washer/dryer as we do then the aft cabinet is used by the combo.

Being a cat family (although we don't travel with ours), I sympathize.

You're probably not going to find any plans for wiring and piping.

You might want to consider using a lighted endoscope like this that you could stick through a small hole to see what's back there.

Then you're going to have to convince the cat to go into that compartment.

And……if it’s an issue, make sure you never open the cargo compartment while the cat is inside. That would startle the cat, and it might make a run for it. Our cat is microchipped, but we suspect he’d run like crazy if he got loose.

Our cat is an indoor cat, and his litter box is in the corner out of the way from us.
He has more miles on him than some humans. Duke rules!
