Generator Bracket Sway

Opened the generator compartment today to prepare for tune up and I noticed the whole generator sways back and forth. The brackets are just hanging down and not supported side to side. Is this normal? I would assume the swaying will eventually stress the metal and start cracking.

Swaying swaying

Yes! Same problem on my Georgetown 280 DS Motorhome. This was pointed out to me by the people at RV specialty. I went to a local sheet metal shop and purchased two strips of steel 1 inch wide. I cut them down and drilled holes and then used self tapping screws to attach the tray that the generator sits in to the frame of the RV.

movement is mainly used for vibration control?
if it were fixed solid to the frame you would feel the generator vibrating when it is turned on

"Supposed to" may mean "We built it that way" not "Yes, that is perfectly fine for long-term durability and will not cause metal fatigue from the movement."

My Onan 5500 does not move at all.

If this is not the contact info you used I'd ask again and not mention what someone else told you:

I sent them an email and spoke to Nicholas at Forest River. This was the email reply ...
"Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email. I am more than happy to assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have with your motorhome. The bracket for the generator does move freely to help reduce the vibrations it may create throughout the coach. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me directly. Thank you

When I called he assured me that it was supposed to move. I saved the message just incase there is an issue in the future. I need to go to a welder for the step bracket that cracked from previous owner and I will ask him if there is a possible solution. I am questioning the vibration issue because I believe the generator is on rubber mounts. IDK will address the issue after winter storage. Thank you all

Why 'fix' what isn't broken? Run with it for awhile and reevaluate.
One thing that bugs me more than generator noise is generator vibration running through the entire RV.

Your profile says your RV is a 2015. If the generator tray has been like that since the factory, I would think you are pretty safe in that area.

I just purchased the motorhome this fall. It has been in storage for 2 years and only had 8900 miles on it. Not worried to much. Just some added security.
