Generator runs for 5 seconds, then shuts down
We just picked-up a 2018 GT5 36B5 after PDI last night. Parked it at the top of our driveway last night, but it got down to 20F last night, and no higher than 35F today. So went up after work to start it up, kick-on the generator so I could fire up the furnace and heat the coach to minimize freezing overnight tonight.
Problem is, I prime the generator and then start it - it starts up and runs for approx 5s, and then shuts down. Being a new motorhome owner, I don't know if there's a simple, stupid thing I'm missing here or if something else could be the issue.
They did change the oil in the generator (only after I requested as during PDI I checked the oil and it was black). And of course, I didn't test the generator after the oil change....

That rig has a gas powered generator? How much gas do you have a full tank of gas? The generator on most rigs will shut off if you've got less than 1/4 tank of gas.

If it is an Onan, there will be a fault code generated. At the generator itself, press the OFF button 3 times within 5 seconds. This we will initiate the switch flashing. If it repeatedly flashes 3 times then pauses, There is a fault. Search for the online manual to get specific information on retrieving the code.

How much of an angle are you parked on? There may be a low oil level switch that is not happy if you are too far out of level? Or maybe causing a low oil pressure?

Could be overfilled with Oil also. There is a post about removing Oil to solve this problem. If the Oil level is showing Full remove some of the Oil so it is below the Full Mark. I don’t remember how much.

Depending on the fullness of the fuel tank, the angle could also affect the fuel level gauge.

That may very well be it! We are parked at the top of a slope, so I'd guess it's leaning about 4-5 degrees away from the side of the coach the gene is on. I'll simply level it and try again when I get back out there today. Thanks!

It sort of sounds like it is detecting something wrong. Low oil shutoff, overcurrent protection, and probably some others I don't know of can cause this behavior. The advice above will probably solve it.
If it is a carburator issue, which is often caused by ethanol in gas, a product called Seafoam will solve a bunch of issues. On small Honda generators I've used a syringe with a tube to inject Seafoam directly into the carburator. Cleared it up in no time.
Our houseboat generator was out for 3 years, and with yearly application of Stabil in the gasoline, it ran fine on the gas that had been sitting for all that time.

I agree, the biggest issue with generators is oil level. The safety switch will immediately kill it if the oil level show LOW!.
Check level if RV and oil level in generator.

Generator
You stated after you prime the generator it runs for a few seconds then stops. Sounds like there is a fuel shut off valve that is closed.

SOLVED!
Thank you all for the replies. Sure enough, I'm parked at about a 5 degree angle. Once I moved the coach to a relatively flat spot - gene fired-up and continued to run.
REALLY appreciate all the help on this!

Use fuel stabilizer at all times. Ethanol will clog the jets.
