Generator shuts off when we hit a bump

Our generator shuts off when we hit a bump in the road. It started to do it occasionally, now it is quiet often. Sometimes it will restart on its own if it is a smaller bump other times it does not. Ant suggestions? Thanks for any help. I

That's often caused by a fuel flow problem, such as a partially-plugged generator fuel filter or a failing generator fuel pump. The fuel level in the carburetor bowl is too low and when you hit a bump the jets are uncovered and suck air.

WHICH exact generator model do you have? It'll be an Onan but which one? You'll need to pull the generator cover to look for the data plate inside if you do not know.

It is an Onan 7000. I will replace the fuel filter and breather and see how it goes. Thanks for the info. 1

check the oil level too
some will shut down when oil is low

look for your manual here https://www.cummins.com/generators/r...erator-manuals

there is a section on fault codes (flashing/blinking lights)
may give you more help in determining why it shuts down

Mine used to do that when it got hot. Anytime I hit a hard bump it would die. It was from the fuel boiling in the fuel bowl. The harsh jolt would disturb the fuel and make it die out. I vented the generator compartment and it cured 95% of the problem. Now it may die once during a trip. But not always.

Check the ground cable connections to the chassis from the generator frame. If it loses contact it may be going into shutdown. They need battery voltage to run.

If it was fuel issue, it would stumble and recover, the engine is spinning at least 2400 RPMs.
