GEORGETOWN 350DS Catalytic converter theft photos

My luck finally ran out. Started my Georgetown and it now sounds like an M1 TANK! (10 Cyl 6.8L EFI)

Looked underneath to find a big empty space where my Catalytic used to be.

Questions: [1] I'm assuming that my O2 Censor was yanked out with it but I do not see any loose wires. Does anyone have a picture or location where the wires run to? I'm pricing out parts and temporary alternatives until parts come back in stock the O2 Censor wiring location is a mystery right now. [2] If I can't get parts in the next 30 days I'm thinking of a temporary pipe to home-run this right to my muffler to keep humidity out of my engine and also so I don't crack any windows of the cars around me when I take off. I see Amazon sells flexible exhaust pipes just for this purpose but whats the exhaust pipe size? :-D

A 2010 motorhome may not have had one. Are you certain it did?

That really sucks. All you can do is get out a tape measure and get a piece of flex pipe and get ready for the dash to light up. You can get a hunk of pipe at a truck stop.

Sorry about your converter theft.

I’m also curious about the circumstances. Was the motorhome indoors or outdoors? Did it happen at home, storage lot, campsite, RV dealer, out on the road on a trip?

I've read several stories from people where it happened in every one of those except for a campsite. One person had it cut off their Class C when they stopped at a restaurant and went in for lunch.

The one person who had it indoors looked like they had it in a garage or a car port attached to their house. I think it happened around 8:30 AM to them. The car pulled into their driveway, they came in, cut it off, and left. It was caught on camera. I think they posted that here.

Storage lots, RV dealers, and Ford dealers are the most common ones reported.

To demonstrate that the upstream and downstream O2sensors are not mounted on the catalytic converter, in response to the OP's question. You can see that there are no wires going to either end of the unit.

If sensors were used on that model, it appears that they were further upstream and downstream respectively.

The O2 sensor appears to be screwed into the top near the center. The pic also shows how the wires run. That's the same as our 2019 chassis but our sensor is a bit further forward, more towards the center.

I checked some auto parts places for the O2 sensors and most later model years showed two sensors but the 2010 and 2009 only showed one, for whatever that's worth. That's why I asked the question.

From the OP's post:

If there was one thought it might help as requested.

So what is that sticking out of the top of the converter in post #7?

I think Larry- NC was pointing out that the OP's unit converter didn't have the O2 sensor. I think.

It is, indeed. I'm used to seeing them on the pipes and not the unit itself. That's where I was looking for it.

I'm very sorry this happened to you. I can only imagine how angry I would be. We just got back from a trip where we met two different people who had recently had theirs stolen. I decided I had to try to do something and just put the Catstrap on our 2011 Georgetown last night. If someone really wanted to spend the time, they might be able to get it off, but it would sure slow them down. I expect they would just move on before that.

Yup. All of these devices mean nothing if the criminal has all the time in the world. But if they do not, they seem to work. They're all just deterrents to make the criminal move on to an easier target.

The clean cuts on this CatClamp make it look like a bolt cutter or an angle grinder was used, not a reciprocating saw. But they had to have a lot of time and a good tool set,

My Ryobi 4" angle grinder accepts 4" cutoff wheels (if I put a washer behind the wheel. I used it to cut off a rivet (not on a catalytic converter) last night. That setup cuts through 3/8" rebar in several seconds with no effort.

I've also used that setup to cut off shackle bolts on the golf cart. The nut came off easily, but the bolt was frozen into the metal sleeve in the rubber bushings. You could spin the bolt/sleeve in the rubber bushings, but the bolt would not slide out. Simple to cut it at both ends since I was installing new bushings and sleeve.

Always wear safety goggles when you do this.

Took my convertor when it was stored at my regular location, they did a nice job of cutting it off, pretty square and they unhooked the O2 sensor wires, new O2 harness is about 1400 bucks. In total it cost me 3200 buck to replace. Have a 2021, V-8 in my MH.
Hope the guy cut his finger off.
