When we bought our GT in 2012 it was fitted with a "hula skirt" ...the same stuff UPS uses on their trucks. On our trip to Alaska last year we had no problems with rocks being thrown up on the Toad truck. There were a lot of other rigs with the solid mud flaps that had busted toad windshields and headlights. On this and other forums the opinions are that the solid flaps flick the rocks up onto the toads. Thats why Roadmaster et al make the guard that fits over the tow bar.
If you never go off road then OK, but if you head north or west to the Rocky Mtns, Canada or Alaska leave your flap home or get the Hula type.
