Georgetown toad recommendations

This is not a reply I have another question. We have a Georgetown with the Ford V10 and are looking for a vehicle to flat tow. We are presently looking f159 or the dodge 1500. Does anyone have any suggestions or answers as to why not a truck

Mod note: this was posted by NXR, in answering the OP's post.

"You probably should start a new thread since this is an entirely different subject.

In short, the Georgetown comes with a 5,000 lb hitch. The XL and GT7 have the 24,000 GVWR chassis with a 30,000 lb GCWR but still has a 5,000 lb hitch. Some smaller Georgetown’s also can tow 6,000 lbs but others, like mine, not so much.

So it depends on your exact model Georgetown and the curb weight of your truck plus any stuff you put in it.

With the Georgetown that has the 6,000 lb towing capacity you will need to have the hitch upgraded to a 7,500 lb hitch if you’re towing something heavy. There is no 6,000 lb hitch so Forest River elected to install the 5,000 lb hitch on everything so people would not think they could tow 7,500 lbs.

Make sense?

Also, please consider clicking on User CP on the green bar at the top left, scrolling down to Edit Signature, and entering your model year and exact model like I did. That will help people give you more accurate answers.

Absolutly, as long as it's gross weight is lower than your hitch and GCWR capacity. We tow a 4 door, V8 Dodge Dakota and it and the Georgetown do fine.

Gotta weigh the MH loaded for a trip and see what you have left over for towing. I have around 6k for towing, 4100lb of CCC, but I need to change the hitch if I were tow that weight. My 13 Explorer LTD is around 4500lbs.

I believe you meant empty weight and not gross weight.

From a search:

"The 2019 Ram 1500 weight ranges from 4,798 lbs and 5,374 lbs before being fully loaded up or hooked up to tow a trailer."

Presuming the OP meant F150 and not F159:

"F-150: 4,069–4,653 lb,
Regular cab 4,415–5,236 lb
Super Cab 4,529–5,320 lb
SuperCrew 5,525–5,697 lb"

So as usual the answer is "It depends" and as you noted, he may need to change the hitch IF his model Georgetown even has the adequate margin.
