Georgetown XL Map light replacement

Found an old post about a replacement for a burned out Georgetown XL map light. See image above. No info anywhere, on how to remove/install. This picture link is from an old post, part number is 001-54WW from command electronics. Ebay also has these.

OK, here is how to do this. If you google the items, you will see they are one piece, with spring clips that you raise vertical, and push the light into the ceiling hole. The spring clips snap down and hold the light to the inside of the ceiling panel. Thats how they work. To remove, you have to pull the item down, without damaging the bright soft white ceiling covering.

What we did, is take a cheap, thin paper plate, about 9 inches, cut about a two inch wide slot from the edge to approx the center, and then slide the paper plate under the trim ring to protect the ceiling cover. It fits snug. Then we used to flat table knives from the rig, and gently pried down. It takes a bit of finesse, but gently pulling down, it causes the spring clips which you cannot see to fold vertical, allowing you to pull the light out, It takes a while, but it works. The light is connected to the wiring harness in the rig with a small two pin modular connection. Just pull out.

When you get your replacement, probably wont come with the modular plug. Either cut the male end off the rig harness or cut the female end of the plug off the old light. I highly recommend that. Butt connect to the wires, and voila, you are ready to reinsert. Fold the spring clips up, vertical, and gently push in the light. The clips will snap down to the inside of the ceiling liner, to hold the light. Push until tight to the ceiling cover.

The key is, clean hands, use something to protect the white soft ceiling and it works. They dont make this stuff easy.

Maplight replacement

Turns out, the LED light was OK, it was the little tiny driver that was bad. Make sure you order the light and it comes with the driver. See the pics.
