Hot water tank

So, after draining the hot water tank, how does it fill up again without actually using a hose?

From your water tank and pump
You turn on power switch to your water pump and the water tank if full will fill as you use hot water.

I'm sure you have a reason for asking so something else may be going on I guess?

You can pump from your fresh water tank by opening a hot water faucet until you purge the air but where else do you plan to get the water from. Just make sure the tank is full of water before you turn on the heat source (electric or propane).

If you have a Suburban - Atwood water heaters should be similar, hook up your water hose as normal, open the pressure relief valve while filling the water heater, close it once it starts spitting. If you don't have a hose connected to the rv turn on the water pump, with water in the freshwater tank obviously, as when you're dry camping and open the pressure relief.

Thanks Iggy. I drained the hot water tank to replace the electrical element, but I can’t see if it works unless I am sure there is water in the tank . The fresh water tank is full so how does it get into the hot water tank. I have no info on the hot water tank such as how big it is or whatever so am feeling my way along even though I have had the mh for about six years. It’s a 2012 Georgetown 378.

Turn on our water pump and open hot water faucet until steady stream of water comes out. The Suburban WH is 6 Gal.

Turn pump switch on and turn on hot water sink faucet to bleed out all the air. When you get a steady stream of water with no air. That is when it ok to turn on water heater for test.

when you drained it did you look at the condition of the anode rod? from your question you have not drained the tank and refilled it before. did you just get the motor home or have you had it since 2012. if you have had it and have not drained the tank since 2012 i would suspect the anode rod is depleted.

Be aware that the suburban in a 378 is a 10 Gallon unit. We also have that model.
