Interesting potential dangerous find with my Genny Wiring

So I purchased one of the small outlet testers for the RV mainly to monitor voltage. I went out to exercise my generator today. I do not have a transfer switch so I have to plug in the shore power cord to the 30 amp gen output receptacle. I noticed my tester was giving a live/neu reverse error. Seemed weird as I have had no issues otherwise. Sure enough, the hot/neutral wires were reversed at the RV gen receptacle. Not sure at what point someone did that but it was either the dealer or the factory. I tend to blame the dealer as I had a lot of trouble with the gen from the day I picked it up from them. They worked on it 2 -3 times before I finally took it to Cummins who found the problem quickly (magneto). The little tester was worth the few bucks it cost!

Glad you figured it out with your new tester.
You need to use it at the campgrounds as many have the same stupid so called electrician who know nothing about electrical circuits.

I have a power monitor hooked up in line with shore power and tests constantly and will shut down all power to motorhome if it finds an error.
This was my 1st mod I did on my rig in 2012 and it has saved me at least 3 times for sure.

I have been using one of the smaller devices. Been debating whether or not I need to do more.

Thanks for posting your findings. Checking for the correct wiring of the generator could easily be overlooked.

It’s just amazing how often manufacturers and professionals that work on your equipment cannot be trusted to do the work properly, and the end user needs to go behind them and make it right.

Good find! I’m either looking at the PI 50A with remote display, or the watchdog with Bluetooth. The only difference with the watch dog is I don’t have to run the wire to the monitor and find a place to mount that. It just connects to the phone via blue tooth.

I have the same Progressives Industries unit as Iggy.
You should know they have a lifetime warranty, and I have used their services once for a rare instance. They worked with me to correct the situation in record time and even sent me the part needed years after purchase.

I installed the remote monitor in the bedroom facing the living room, so it’s visible from almost anywhere. See below.....

The GT3 doesn't have a transfer switch? But it has an onboard generator? Weird.

My 2010 Georgetown doesn’t have auto transfer either.....it wasn’t standard offering back then. However, it’s not that big of a deal. I have to unplug the cord when leaving the campground, I have to feed it back into the cargo box, and instead of just throwing it loosely into the box, I plug it in to the generator receptacle, just in case I want to remotely start the genny.

Ah, got it. Yeah, that's not bad unless it's storming and the power goes out. We were at one place near Lake Erie and a storm and lightning kept causing the power to go on and off. So I just fired up the generator until the storm passed to help avoid issues with nearby lightning strikes or other things. And stayed dry.

I'm curious.....did you have to do anything with your generator receptacle after the EMS install? Does your EMS system require a neutral/ground bond to pass the electricity?

My 2003 Georgetown has a transfer switch.... Strange a newer coach wouldn't.

My Progressive EMS is worth its weight in gold. My rig is the same as Iggys and Kenand terrys, no transfer switch. I guess in 2010/11/12 the factory had to cut costs somewhere but the system as fitted is no hardship.
