Lights on Tow Dolly

Got a question that might seem simple but haven't found the answer anywhere. Just bought a 2015 Georgetown 270S after 20 plus years of TT and 5th wh. I would prefer to tow 4 down but we have a 2012 Ford Escape and everything I've found says these are risky to tow 4 down. Looks like I'm going to have to use a tow dolly at least for our first trip which will be 3 months. Question; when using a tow dolly that is equipped with lights, do I also need to have my Ford Escape wired for lights?

Based on your home state. In Florida, the dolly lights suffice.

In California the tow dolly lights are sufficient...however I also run to some magnetic lights that I put on the back of my toad. Only costs a few bucks and makes it more visible. We KNOW how inattentive most drivers are!

Garth......

All indications are that the 2012 Ford Escape....4 or 6 cylinder may have been the last year they were flat towable.

See “2012 Motorhome Dinghy Guide”

Check your owners manual under the heading “ Recreational towing “

I’m thinking you’re ok to flat tow....no dolly needed.

When I used a tow dolly I used additional lights on the vehicle I towed, I just felt better. I now tow 4 down and have a 7 pin Y adapter if you would like to have one. Good Luck!

I tow a 2009 Hyundai Azera on a Acme tow dolly. Even though the dollies lights are fine and legal I also added a set of the magnetic trailer lights (Bought on Amazon not the Harbor junk ones) I have them tie wrapped to the rear seat headrest in the Azera.and made a y connection so I can also plug the trailers lights in and the extra ones in.The lights on the tow dolly are way low and up front kinda hard to see so the added ones are easy to see. I don't even remove them when not towing.Just coil up the wire and leave it on the rear deck behind the seats.Total cost about 60 bucks but it's the extra protection that's priceless.

When we used a tow dolly we installed this plug:

https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-Towin...+7+pin+adapter

And used these lights in the back window of the car being towed.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good luck!
