Mice and fuel don’t mix!
Went to bring motorhome home from shop yesterday and pulled around to the side of building to connect Jeep and smelled gas. Had fuel pouring out from the top of the tank! A mouse (or squirrel) had chewed through the fuel line. Also got the wires for the sending unit. After about 2 hours got the fuel line fixed. Had to remove the rear cross member to reach fuel connector. Ford didn’t have the fuel line in stock and will take a week to get due to the holiday, and we’re scheduled to leave on Tuesday. Bought a section of high pressure hose and clamped them to the fittings. When I first diagnosed the problem, thoughts of dropping the tank were quickly extinguished by the fact that the hydraulic cylinder brackets are welded over tank bracket bolts! In order to remove the tank the brackets would have to be cut off or access holes drilled through the brackets to gain access to the bolts. Not to mention that that the tank was full. I still need to repair the wiring, but the motorhome is running and good to go. Just have to keep an eye on mileage if not repaired in time to leave. There is a small access hole in the frame that I can get my arm through but not sure how the plug comes off in order to solder on new leads. Anyone have any experience? Calling ford dealership on Monday to get any insight if I don’t have any luck this weekend.
