Motorized windshield shade

For those that had to replace the motor in the windshield shade, did you have to remove the bracket as well? Or does the shade pop out? We did this a couple years ago and I don’t remember removing the bracket. At any rate, we are struggling to get this thing down. I didn’t want to remove the bracket if I didn’t have to.

Its been a few years but if I remember correctly I removed the whole bracket.
Wasn't too difficult.
If there is a way to remove just the shade portion I'm not aware of it.

Thank you for replying. I will make a note, should it have to be replaced a third time.

Shade

Is the motor not working at all or is it moving but the shade is not going up and down? There was a recall fix for these a few years ago

If there was a recall, I didn’t receive a notification. This is our second replacement due to frayed cords. In my opinion, it’s a design flaw, more likely GT cutting corners. Someone posted that they altered the bracket to alleviate the problem, so that will be our next step. We don’t want to replace a third time!

Shade

I haven't seen a recall on the shade having problems fraying wires. The recall(or fix) was a problem with the motor stripping and the shade falling down. I would like to know what causing the fraying so I can check mine to see if it is happening too.

The wire going to the motor on mine was frayed from rubbing on the curtain. Frayed it right at the base so there wasn't any wire left to splice.
I also discovered when I was trying to find replacement motor that there are two or three different manufacturers FR uses for these shades. I had to call FR with my VIN to find out which one I had. They probably all use the same motors but it might explain why some owners get a recall and others don't.
