Move water heater switch

I plan to move the water heater switch to the inside..I plan to remove the switch that is on the water heater and move it inside to an easier to reach location.. I plan to use a lighted switch if I can make it work..Any suggestions?

I did this on my Georgetown.
I left the outside switch alone and I installed a lighted switch off of the dedicated circuit breaker that feeds the water heater.

It was easy and here is a picture of mine.

I think this is a great idea never thought of it myself; my old motorhome had one and I really miss it. In fact when I turn it off this year (the water heater that is) it was starting to corrode so why not leave it on all the time and put another switch in???

Odd, my unit has a switch on the power panel. Never heard of one not having a water heater switch already installed in the coach.

You have a switch for the propane on the power panel but not to turn on 120 volt circuit.
Only a circuit breaker or the switch outside on the tank.

If your is different take a picture of the panel with the 120 volt switch.

Here is what my panel looks like

My Rockwood 2509S

My TT has a propane and electric switch on the inside, There is still a switch on the heater. CAUTION: Do not turn the electric heat on with a empty water heater -- $$$$ repair.

I leave my heater mounted switch in the off position until I am hooked up the shore power and turn it off before leaving.

On my Sunseeker MH I have the propane and electric switches on the control panel...and yes, the electric one does turn on the WH. I have an Atwood water heater.

There are several different models of tank style water heaters that Forest River uses in their vast array of different RV's.

There are basically three types they use with the dual electric/propane option.

The Atwood brand will have two switches inside the RV, where one controls the propane and the other turns on the electric element.

However, Suburban has two main models, the SWDE and SWDEL, and they have different switch configurations. Both are explained in this link:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ore-36197.html

So, depending on what RV you have, you could have one of three different tank style water heaters, and yours could be different than the OP's. Tbonz and Iggy most likely have the Suburban SWDE model, that only has the switch for the electric element outside on the face on the water heater.

Flagstaff 27RLWS with Suburban gas/electric hot water heater: I started to really over complicated this in the beginning but pretty much just "switched" the breaker for the water heater...... installed an "old work box" and a lighted switch above my main panel and l leave my electric element switch at the heater on and use the lighted switch when needed......lighted and above my control panel so I don't forget to shut it off when I "break down" the TT or I leave for a long period.
Works for me and doesn't look half bad with the matching switch plate.

Sorry, I appreciate your determination to relocate the WH switch on the water heater but I enjoy Happy Hour to much to invest the time and energy in this way. I did what Iggy did - I leave my WH switch on all the time and just turn the WH circuit breaker on and off. I might add a light in the future but that may take me away from my favorite pastime.

This. 100%. The breaker is inside. Just flip it on and off.

I got it done..just have to put everything back together. The breaker deal is a pain in my RV. Have to stand on head to do the job. Put new lighted switch on wall by vanity. Easy to reach!
