No complaints with my V8 in my 2021 Newmar Bay Star 35’ on the F-53 24K chassis. I have about 7500 miles all with a Toad on it since mid July. Definitely quieter than the V10. Pulls hills just fine without WOT. Overall 7.6 MPG. One very nice feature is the ability to lock out higher gears and a manual shift mode via a rocker switch on the stalk. I did not have the plug wire issue that has been reported but did have the Ford dealer swap them out to the new version (C) and open up the firewall for additional air flow as the Ford TSB indicates. Normally the TSB will only be implemented if you have a misfire & CEL. Any chassis built on or after September 29 th was built with the new wires.

These engines were not meant to be idled for extended periods or for short trips and if they are used as such must be taken out and ‘aired out’, ‘Italian Tuneup’ etc. They are meant to tow and haul period and they do it very well.
Yep, my 2014 did it once. It was under perfect conditions, days of rain, cool temps, steady 62 MPH driving. Went to pass a Semi, get the nose of the truck in the left lane and stumble pop stumble, BUT I knew immediately what it was and did not take my foot off the gas like everyone else had done which killed the engine, and by the time I got around the semi, it had cleared up and back to normal. If you know the conditions it can happen in and treat it properly, it doesn't happen. The EB engines do like to stretch their legs once in a while to keep them clean.

Anyway, looking forward in a few years when time to replace my F350 and plan to get the new 7.3, sounds like a really good alternate to the diesel. Just wait until the numbers come out with the supercharged ones guys are building.

Thanks Steve.
Thanks for your input on mpg which seem to be the norm for the V8 even though others have reported higher. I plan on towing a small 3,300 lb car on all 4 wheels so you mpg still sounds reasonable.
Transmission lockout... will have read more about that.

My F-53 was built Oct 2020 so they had some wrong wiring in the 7 pin plug wiring for the tow?

Thanks

My Toad, also 4 down is about 1 K# more than yours but I'm sure that does not make a difference. The big hole the coach punches in the wind is where the fuel goes as you know. With the lockout in drive you can set the top gear with the toggle on the stalk. When you put the selector into manual (yes there is actually a manual position on the shifter) the toggle allows you to shift as you would with typical paddle shifters in a car. Very nice feature.

Any facts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

We have the 2021 Georgetown GT7 36D that turned over to 2000 miles this past weekend. It does have high RPMs and the noise is quite a bit inside. We have to yell to hear each other and as the passenger, I’m on my husband’s bad ear (Army will do that to ya) so I really have to yell. We haven’t towed anything yet, but have crossed some mountains on interstates and it slows down a bit. The gas mileage is usually about 7.8 to 8 mpg. I hope that helps.

We have the 7.3 in an SOB Class C. 30’ long, towing a 5,100# Jeep Grand Cherokee 4-down. I am very impressed with it. Has all the power and torque I need and gets 8.5 - 9.0 MPG. I use tow/haul all the time.

For the past several years we had been towing a fifth wheel with a diesel truck. I was concerned about the towing power of a gas engine compared to the diesel. Yes, it is not as strong going up the hills. But, it really does an adequate job and I am happy with it. We don’t find it too loud when pulling hard. We can easily converse over the sound.
