I believe most are saying that it only happens on the way in. My guess would be that there is a bracket or something that the bottom front edge of the slide hits when coming in and is "bouncing" over it. The slide may torque enough to raise it off the obstruction when going out. The fact that SternHappens has a gouge in the bottom of his slide may lay proof to this.

You can definitely see it bounce back down on the way out, not as pronounced because the resistance is more on the way in because I suppose it is popping up over the obstruction.
The warranty rep at the dealer said they ordered a "kit" to fix it, so that leads me to believe there is a known problem at the factory.

Hey SternHappens - Do you know if this "kit" is something that FR is recommending dealers to use to fix this, or is this just something they (your dealer) use based on previous experience? It would save me some time when placing a call to my dealer rep.

They haven't seen this issue before and as a matter of fact after they had it for several months when I picked it up I had to point out to them what the issue was. I had been in contact with Travis Bird from Forest River and once I explained all the various issues with the bedroom slide, he told me to get it in immediately to get repaired. At the dealer I was told once they called Forest River about it, they told me that a Kit was ordered, I took the conversation to mean that Forest River has been seeing the problem and has put together a group of parts to be replaced. Of course I am still waiting to get it back in to be fixed. Growing more impatient by the day...

I'm having this problem on an early 2015. It's caused a rip in the vinyl floors. I'm going to take it in for warranty repair. Will they be able to fix the floor rip? The vinyl floors are worrisome for me.

In theory they can put in a patch with a piece of the same pattern flooring. I first took my unit in on Oct 5, picked it back up on Dec 5 with a list of items "on order" from the factory including a piece of flooring to patch the bedroom the floor. Well still waiting for the parts to come in... in the mean time a piece of duct tape and a bath mat to cover it up whenever the slide is open.

I had a severe tear in the vinyl floor in my Sierra, from a rock that was caught under a slide. A guy from the factory had repaired it like an artist! There was a small bubble from the vinyl being stretched a bit, but you had to know where to look to see it.

My 2016 has the same issue going out. No floor damage yet but what is this kit you mentioned?

I don't have much confidence in the dealer I've been working with since I've been waiting for parts since sometime after Oct 5 when I turned my unit in, already having repairs approved form the factory. I picked it up on Dec 3 and they are supposed to "call me" when the parts come in. Waiting for pigs to fly I guess... We are leaving on a 32 day trip in 2 weeks, so I figure when we get back I'll just deal directly with Forest River and have them send me whatever is on the list directly. I took the bed deck apart again to see what I can do about re-engineering the bumping issue. The exact problem is Forest River did not properly engineer the bed part hanging off the slide. There is runners running down each side that as the slide comes off the rollers bump down onto the runners. The problem was the deck was not leveled in any meaningful way and was problem over 1/2" higher off the floor than the slide framing, therefore causing the dramatic bump as the slide goes in or out. Coming in it is bumping back up on the rollers, going out it is dropping off the rollers.

The bed deck was not cut properly and one corner of it actually was under the framing and not inside of it, some trimming took care of this. I measured what was needed to make the runners thick enough on the edges to be the same depth as thickness of the slide and to sit level when in place, and relocated the mounting strips accordingly to sit at the correct level. I cleaned up the wire loom from how loose it was on the end that doesn't need to move, with the added runner the deck is now high enough in the middle for there to be appropriate clearance for the wiring. This had been an issue for me previously when the lighting over the bed quit working, the wires were massively twisted from rolling back and forth each time the slide opened with not have enough clearance. Also the rollers are screwed into the subfloor in a notch that is cut out. One was deeper than the other and very uneven so I chiseled it level but didn't want to go deeper for not knowing how thick the subfloor is, etc. The slide operates better now, is not so clunky when transitioning from slide frame to bed frame, however the thing I neglected to take into account is the space between the edge of the deck and the bottom part of the slide, a little bit thicker than the strip of wood screwed along the front of the slide, maybe and inch so when coming off the slide the roller hits that crevice and then goes onto the bed slide so there is still a bump but much less pronounced. At least now I know exactly what is causing the issue. You can also see in the picture where I made a notch next to the runner on the right side to feed the wire loom through so it is not in the way of the runner underneath. Also included a picture showing the drawer handle I installed to make lifting the bed up easier, not pulling on the bedding anymore.

Thanks Toolman 57,
I will probably contact the factory rep and just set up a date in late June or July to drive to the factory and get mine checked further and the flooring repaired. The dealer I've been going through is not exactly addressing the issues.

One of the items on the list for warranty repair was the stairs, they were spongy feeling, especially on the left side bottom step, The dealer told me there was an issue with the step and the factory replaced it. Well the third time I stepped on it after we picked it up there was a loud pop and the step was spongy again. I'm 250 and the step is rated for 300lb.s. So this time I got under and lowered the step to check it out. Low and behold there is clearly a spot weld on the left side exterior edge which broke, hence the loud pop and springboard feel. This time I had a local mobile welder come out he repaired the original bracket and then reinforced it with an extra piece of angle iron. Much stiffer now. I am sending the bill to the factory rep, curious if they will reimburse me on it. Another reason why I don't plan to go back to that dealer - they are liars! How do you neglect to tell the customer there was welding involved, they blamed it all on the stair manufacturer.

I've had this rear slide repaired three times now by two different dealers. I'm holding my breath to see if it really IS fixed. I'll let ya'll know when I go to inspect it and (hopefully) bring it home tomorrow. Dealer is 80 miles away so hopefully it won't be a wasted trip. Although the process is slow, I'm at least getting support from the dealer and FR.
And thank you for all the photos of your self-made repair. I had to re-do the 12v wires like you did since the dealer in california messed things up a bit in their attempt. I took the shielding off the cable and used nail-down staples to keep the wires close to the floor so the bed box didn't chop them off anymore.

Picked it up today. Yay! It's been in the shop for two months now. From everything I can tell, the slide works like it should--nice and smooth, no bumps or grinding noises. I did notice some damage on the underside of the slide "box." The repair guy said that the rollers were in the wrong place before (or maybe they tried a new location and put them back) and the rollers crushed in a small area of the under-side on the slide. It looks like a 3"x3" square area that has some damage (it's about 1/32" deep). They took pictures and will submit for further waranty repair (body damage essentially). I went ahead and accepted the coach for now figuring that it's not structural and not deep enough to let water in. They did a bunch of other repairs--I'm happy with the work. Once I get some time this weekend, I'll update my post on the 364 mods thread with pictures.
