Noisy slide
2018 31L5 main slide is very noisy. How loud should it be? I was told by dealer that it’s normal because of the weight. The bedroom slide is quiet.

It should be very quite like your bedroom slide. What type of noise is it? I am starting to have a noisy slide myself and found the problem, dry hydraulic cylinder seal. After I spray the seal with WD Silicone Slide Spray the noise goes away but only for several days then it is back. I noticed that one cylinder had a little jerky movement.

Loud scraping sound like something is dragging. I don’t think that they’re hydraulic slides. I don’t see any hoses going to them.

My slides are all hydraulic. I was assuming yours were too.
In any case they should all be quite. It is not normal.
I am not familiar with the 31L5 RV.
What type of slide mechanisms are they?

Try a dry lube with PTFE on the slide gears. It worked for us.

Not sure why each pic went twice. It’s a Lippert systems. Says slim rack on the one gear belt. The larger one going through the floor has two wires in wire shield going through the center of it.

The larger one is called an "Energy Chain" the purpose is to protect the wires from pinching and tangling. It does not help in the pushing of the slide. The other item is a "rack and pinion" gear. It actually moves the slide. A dry silicone lubricant is what you need.
You may already know all this though.
Why it is making a noise is another question. Check to see if you have rollers under the slide that are not adjusted properly. Also check to see if there are any excessive wear marks on the slide.
Maybe the motors are binding up.
I purchased a mechanic's stethoscope to help pinpoint problems on my RV. It does help.

That’s exactly the mechanism that we have. Spray the teeth on those rails with a PTFE dry lube. I also used a slide seal live on the rubber gaskets. Made it much quieter. I don’t think the track with the wires has anything to do with the slide. I think it’s a wire housing.

Scrapping sound or a squeaky sound? I know our slides make noise but most is the seals squeaking as they slide along the slide walls.

Actually this is my first motorhome so I don’t know a whole lot about them. I’m learning! I will look for the rollers although I didn’t see them under there. The manual says no lubricant should be needed. I guess because they’re nylon? I’ll check further tomorrow. This forum is a big help.

I will try the dry lube. Very loud scraping or grinding sound. Does this forum support sound on video? I can post it to see if anyone else has heard this.

I have never tried posting a video but you can post a YouTube link. Upload it to YouTube then attach a link.

Easy to do on YouTube but you need a YouTube account. That's where granddaughters come in handy. Aren't granddaughters wonderful!

Yes they are! Gotta love them! I hope to be putting it up shortly. I did stop at a different FR dealer today and they said it absolutely shouldn’t sound like that.

Good post of your slide out on YouTube. My wife heard some loud noise coming from the room where our desktop is and said, "Whats that terrible noise"? I replayed it and she couldn't believe it was a slide out being extended! No way that is normal.
