But we go out of warranty in five weeks. I really do not want to spend money for a third-party service contract but I've begun investigating them because they're cheaper while the unit is still in warranty.

Good luck with your new unit,

Ray
I quoted bclemens below from COVID-19 sub-forum to show that Forest River stands behind their products.

I can't speak for every division, but we often look at things on a case by case basis. There is no such thing as black and white these days, just shades of gray.
In April 2018 before my warranty expired, I documented some defective cabinet doors with Celestino Lopez. (West Coast U.S./CANADA, Class A FR3/GEORGETOWN Warranty Rep)

Celestino Lopez was able to send the replacement doors direct to me after my warranty was expired.

I have been out of warranty for two years now & would buy a replacement from Forest River.

I'm not at all concerned that "documented but not fixed" by the end of the warranty will be an issue. And many components carry multi-year warranties from their manufacturer.

I'm pretty darn comfortable with how stuff is shaking out, I mean, we just went four months straight in this thing without a massive issue.

The repeat shower leak is one I'm really concerned with, though. Water is pretty darn destructive. It would be trivial to put a drip tray under that drain line when it's being built but not so easy now and it's made me a bit gun-shy. Somehow I need to find a drip tray about three feet long but narrow and flexible enough to fit through that little 4" "port hole" access hole right next to the toilet.

The pics are from the production line before the side wall and rear cap went on.

As many of you know I have a 2012 Georgetown XL 378TS
In the first few years it seemed I had lot of hydraulic leaks in lines, fitting and at the pump.
After I had all that replaced by Lippert and I was lucky they replaced all the lines and pump assembly after I complained to anyone who would listen.

Anyway fast forward to now.
73,000 miles and have no problems with anything Forest River Installed on the chassis.
I'm on my second set of tires and change oil/filters regularly.
I do plan to keep this rig and my be buried in it.
I do own it and never had a loan so that saved me a bit.

DW is always seeing other rigs she like but I keep telling her that this is paid for, runs great and I sure don't want to start all over again with another new rig and a few years of heart aches.

So at 70 years young I will keep rolling and if I had to do it all over again I would have bought a motorhome at a younger age instead of many 5th wheels and trucks that cost me at least $200,000.
Georgetown is no better or no worse than any other brand on the Ford F-53 Chassis. Just look around in their forums and they are complaining about the same stuff we did here with the Georgetown.

I still have plans for Yellowstone NP in late June and early July as well as other events in Texas and Oklahoma in Sept.
Have a great summer if you get a chance to get out.

Great advice and commentary, Iggy, especially the "no better or worse" part. Kind of reminds me of my marriage vows over thirty years ago. There's been good times and not-so-good times but the good times well surpass the not-so-good times.

I absolutely wish I had made the jump to a motorhome ten years earlier than I did also. This is just an incredible amount of fun.

And as long as you don't get buried in it because you rolled it, that sounds like a good plan.

Well, I tend to base my actions on personal experience/knowledge. In this instance that would be the the units I have owned/seen. Having just spent 2 hours crawling over my new Tiffen Open Road I can say with out hesitation that the quality of the components/build of the unit is far superior to the GT5 I am trading in. As far as the driving goes there also is no comparison in noise levels, the Open Road is significantly quieter than the GT5. When it comes to reliability of my Allegro the jury is out, of course, as that will only become apparent with time.

As I finished cleaning the GT5 today before turning it in I was unable to shut the door. Turns out the striker plate screws were loose. A fitting end to the story of my ownership of this MH.

Bottom line here is that I became tired of being Forest River's post factum Quality Assurance inspector for my unit. It should have been done at the factory.

Cheers,
Wayne

Seeking assistance

My husband and I purchased a 2018 Georgetown 369XL just before covic-19 hit. The salesman did a walk through with us but unfortunately we haven’t been able to use due to the virus. We have forgotten just about everything he showed us. We have searched the internet to try to get our questioned answered. After finding this site, we’re hoping we can get help in getting some questioned answered. We have an L shaped couch and don’t know how to extend the side for the extra seating. Also, one of the recliners on the couch was extended and unfortunately we don’t know how to put it down to close it. We tried pushing on the foot rest but it won’t close. We are afraid we might break it with too much force. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi happy to help
To pull out the couch there should be a a handle. You pull it out than pull the couch out. To retract the foot rest you pull up a bit on the end of the leg rest closest to you then push down. Sorry I’m not at the coach so I can’t post pics.

I enjoyed your video. I found a 2016 XL 369 and your video helped us decide to buy it. We are enjoying it so far!
