Replacement converter charger

Our converter charger in our 2008 Georgetown 378TS is going bad. The current one is the original that came with it and it is a Parallux Model 7465. it is a 65 amp (input 105-130 VAC 60HZ 1120 watts). I have two interstate 6 volt house batteries. What would be a good replacement converter charger that would be an easy replacement?

Since that looks like a deck mounted converter, I would go with Progressive Dynamics PD9270.

My 2012 GT 378 came with the PD9270 (70 amp with 4 stage charge wizard). Retail model PD9270V.

If you are ever thinking of upgrading to lithium batteries sometime in the future you might want to consider getting a replacement converter that is also capable of charging lithium batteries. Otherwise the pd9270 is a very nice unit. We have one.

If I need to purchase a new converter/charger I will be shopping at www.bestconverter.com. Either a Progressive Dynamics model or a Boondocker model.

The PD9270 is a multi-stage converter that was factory-installed in our 2020. I looked at an archived manual for your Parralax model and it is not multi-stage, but apparently some variants had a T or timer option that cut the voltage to 13.6 volts after 13 hours.

A multi-stage converter steps the voltage down to keep from boiling the batteries, which means they use less water. Before I switched to AGM batteries I would add water once or twice a year, but we are rarely on batteries only.

The lowest step is about 13.2 volts after being on shore or generator power for 33 hours. Since you're not used to that stepped decrease in voltage you may be concerned that something is wrong but there's not.

HTH,
