Roads disintegrate TV Antenna

On my 4 trip thru NY, PA, DE on RTs 86, 81, 495 the roads were so rough the Weingard TV antenna totally disintegrated inside.

We noticed only one channel being received in an area where 20+ would have been expected. Upon inspection the antenna would just spin freely [it should not] so I opened it up to find all the various metal elements scattered around the interior.

Has anyone replaced one of these Antennas? Don't want roof leaks and I am concerned where the wire was severed allowing the antenna to spin like a top.

Or do I just take it to the dealer, close my eyes and open my wallet?

I know what you mean. Mine did the same thing. I wondered why I was only getting 6 stations in a 25 station area. I opened mine up to find the little wires broken, I soldered them back up and now getting 25 plus stations. To take the antenna of is not hard. You can actually remove the round disc and unscrew that portion and replace it without unwavering it from the roof.

The plastic supports for the metal elements are broken. The coils between the elements are broken at the solder joints, the entire assemble rotates on the pedestal indicating that the wire to the coax connection may have been severed.

I'll probably order a new one and hope I can install it on the existing pedestal so as to not have to play with the antenna to roof sealant.

Water is magical as it can easily find a place to leak when you don't want a leak and can completely be blocked in a drain when you don't want it blocked.
