It depends on how often you are going to use it and your personal comfort preferences. What works well for us is a 6" thick memory foam mattress that was purchased from a big-box store. We trimmed it to the proper RV size with an electric carving knife and away we went!

We bought an Aveena Short Queen from Camping World and really like it. Was on sale for about $500. We tried several toppers first but did not really like them.

Having owned a variety of Rvs, the least expensive but very comfortable is to add a memory foam topper to whatever mattress came with the unit. A four inch from Wallmart is very reasonable and makes a routine mattress into a delux. We have a Sleep Number at home, but for a fraction of the cost our RV bed is just as comfy.

What size do you need? Th e "Select Luxury 8 inch" memory foam ones (Queen and Short Queen) on Overstock have gotten great reviews - if you're in the market for a memory foam mattress. I have these bookmarked for future reference!

Right now, we have a memory foam topper over the original (cheapo) mattress. Working fine for now, but not sure how long it will last...

"Ditto" the Aveena mattress. However, we paid $669. Still well worth it. Comperable to a tempurpedic.

X2! The best mattress we own, after the $99 Wal*Mart topper!

We actually put a regular house mattress in our 5'er when we had it and now we are full timing in our MH and put our regular mattress in that also. Like sleeping at home. Love it!

x2 A regular mattress works great! You just lose a little headroom.

Stuck a double pillow top queen that was not being used around the house.
