The motorcycle forum I am a member of took various new oil filters and cut thru them and compared the internals including the filter material. They said the FRAM filter was literally a tissue paper thin material (single layer). They too noticed several times a FRAM filter material come apart and lodge in the motor.
That taught me to never ever buy a fram.

I have used Fram for over 40 years. Never any problems. Used them on Fords, Chevys, Dodge, Toyotas, Jeeps, even Nissans back when they were still Datsuns. Honda and Suzuki motorcycles. Daily drivers and race engines, some with blowers, others with turbos. Sorry you got a bad one but that can happen with any brand.

I don't think it's isolated to just you. I found this on my F150 2 weeks ago. Rusted through from under the paint. Found the oil leaking through the rusted bubble before it ripped open.Click image for larger version

2012 Georgetown 350ts. Ford V10 34000 miles.
Original owner and ordered out to our liking.
Always used Mobil 1 oil 5-20 with the ford filter (ex this time).
Fresh oil change before we left on our trip. Little over 1,400 miles later developed a little squeal and then immediately turned into the knocking noise no oil pressure loss until the knocking started. I remove the oil filter and found filter fragments stuck in the holes of the oil filter and the oil filter was light. I have contacted Fram filled out the proper paperwork warranty and now they want me to send the oil filter to them for analysis I'm not real sure about leaving them with my oil filter once it's out of my hands it's gone. I did have the shop in Albuquerque New Mexico order me a new engine and scheduled for install. no coverage from the insurance company no coverage from Ford. I hope I answered most of everybody's questions it's great to see everybody's input thank you

Used to be a solid fram defender and customer until I had two failures in a week. Air filter tore and let pieces into the intake and an oil filter was incorrectly assembled. I cut my oil filters to get out trapped oil and inspect for metal. The paper was folded over and left a quarter sized hole for unfiltered oil to pour through. Right now testing wix against Baldwin on two different vehicles. Always have used fleetguard on the diesel.

Check out bobistheoilguy.com for a pretty comprehensive and unbiased test on oil and air filters.

Never have any problem with FRAM before, however, thanks for the posting, Bye Bye FRAM. No more FRAM for any of my vehicle from this point on.

I've been using only FRAM filters for last 30 years without any issues but now I am concerned.

There is such a thing as counterfeit oil filters. The Chinese are notorious. Could be you got one and there isn't much inside.

Have not thought of that, but that is a real possibility. Was the filter bought from a reputable auto part store? If bought from Amazon, you may have the counterfeit part as Rokslinger said.

Interesting. If that could happen to Fram, it could happen to any brand. I've bought Wix filters through Amazon. Sure looked like a Wix. Hmm...

I did buy from a reputable place it's normally where I buy the motorcraft oil filters but they were out that day that is how I ended up with a fram instead.
Last night for Giggles I cut apart the old Motorcraft filter that I took off prior to this oil change and it's amazing how much better built that filter is than the Fram.

Don't count on Walmart. Walmart is the hub for the Chinese junks. Walmart itself may not be the problem, but the vendors who provide Walmart the product may be the problem. Walmart is not the distributor for all of what they sell, only certain percent of what they sold were bought by their buyer agents from the US manufacturers, the rest are a collective of many small resellers who bought or made stuff then sold to Walmart at the rock bottom price thought Walmart's buyer agent so Walmart could make some dough.

If you go to the reputable auto parts store, you would more likely get the real deal because only handful of the name brand auto part store in the US who are the distributor for the auto part manufacturers who manufacture the part for the automotive company. When I said "more likely" it is not 100% either because the dam Chinese copy everything from every country to sell back with the same every country that they copied the part from with much lower standard products. So beware!

Which probably explains why walmart can sell an oil filter for $2.99, when a good Wix filter is $10.00 +/- That's not a savings that I'm interested in. Someone mentioned Baldwin filters. We used Baldwin filters on large industrial engines years ago. They are not cadillac filters,....they are Rols Royce of filters.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will drop $30K on a vehicle and then skimp to save a few pennies on oil and filters and such things. I see it all the time.

Come on Tim, that is $7 different, mean 3 gallons of gas or 21 extra miles that anyone could drive...

I am just kidding, just want to have fun with you guy, not mean to pick on anyone...
Okay!
