SiriusXM Ready Stereo ASA Electronics XRV10

The ASA Electronics XRV10 is SiriusXM ready in our 2019 GT5 34H5. Because I have been unable to locate the radio number needed to setup a SiriusXM subscription, I've looked online for more info on the ASA XRV10. It indicates that a 'SiriusXM Satellite Tuner' kit is required (in addition to antenna and subscription) for operation. Did your SiriusXM require this additional part to be operational? If yes, does it require a trip to our dealer for installation or is it simple enough for owner-install? Thanks for your help!

PS. Even with some warranty items needing fixes, we are LOVING our 2019 GT5 34H5 !!

Carol

Sorry for missing this. It's supposed to take the standard SiriusXM box but there are conflicting reports on whether the antenna is pre-installed on the Georgetown's. Perhaps you already know and can comment.

Sometimes SiriusXM has a rebate on that box as long as you don't buy it from Sirius, Best Buy or Amazon.

Last year SiriusXM added the streaming app to some of their plans at no extra charge. So I just use the phone app and stream it via Bluetooth to the XRV10.

The Bluetooth on the XRV10 is a bit flakey and sometimes streaming stops. I found I can just turn Bluetooth on the XRV10 off and back on and it starts working again. That usually happens after we've been sitting somewhere and not while using streaming.

I also found I could dramatically improve the XRV10's sound by removing each speaker and stuffing some home fiberglass insulation behind it and on the top and sides, effectively building a "fiberglass box" for the speaker to sit in.

That doesn't leave much room for air but at least the road and wind noise from the speaker being open to the outside wall is knocked way down. It does make it have more bass so you'll need to tweak the equalizer. The radio is easily understandable and doesn't sound too bad now. Before the insulation it sounded very mushy and was almost unusable at highway speeds.

HTH,

Ray

RedBugNana you will need get the antenna as we no longer run an antenna is the 5 series. As for the install I would say it all depends on how comfortable you are doing something like this? I would ask your servicing dealer if they can install when you have your warranty items resolved. As NXR stated you should be able to stream off of the SiriusXM mobile app via Bluethooth. This option will probably save you some money over time. Hope this helps!
