Stern happens & Jps:
I found Concord to be the cheapest as well. It took about a week to get it. They don't confirm the shipment either, all of a sudden it shows up at my door. I e-mailed them twice and never got a responds. They must really be busy or they don't know how to send a confirmation. Lol
As I mentioned before, this is going to be an ongoing problem unless they change that gear box to steel. I couldn't believe how badly chewed up that gear box was. Norco needs to be notified of the problem. The gear box is the least expense, the tech to replace is where the money is. I have extended warranty, but with a $200 deductible, makes it hardly worth it.
Stern happens, you will have to put those pic's up on the new bed.
Hopefully there won't be any more problems with the gear boxes.

Did he modify the bed frame rails or add runners under the bed? As far as I know that is the only way to get the bump out. I tore mine apart and discovered the the bump was caused by the rollers having to go over a 1/4" difference in height.

There was no bevel or anything, just a square piece of wood that was 1/4" thicker. I eventually solved it by adding a piece of wood that provided a perfectly even track for the wheels to travel along.

That bump or sudden resistance is probably responsible for a lot of damage in that slide mechanism.

How difficult is it to get to the motors? Does it cause any permanent damage? Any tips on removing the trim to minimize damage?

It is not hard to get at the gear/motor. The bunk slide needs to be retracted from full extension by about 4" to get the face boards out. The others are quite easy. You have to be somewhat careful. I plan on using wood putty over the screws instead of the plastic caps that don't stay in.

Roger,

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you have access to all the cables and adjustments from there?

Yes you do. On the bunk slide there are oval port holes, but you will have to remove one more board to see the entire cable system. The port holes allow you to make adjustments to the cable system only.

On the bed slide, you have to remove the electrical box on the left. Just the box with the breakers, not the one with the fuses. Just unscrew and pull out and just let the electrical box just hang on it's own, till you are done working on the cables.

Alright, I just replaced the gearbox in the bed slide. What a pain, but mission accomplished. Opened up gearbox and housing extruded from round to oval on the stripped gear, just like other pictures I've seen. Only gearbox to go bad since we took delivery of our then new unit February 2015, so guess I can't complain compared to some of the others with this same gearbox. Got the gearbox BAL Norco R25076 from concord-parts.com for $87.02 each plus $12.50 shipping for 2, got a spare. They had plenty in stock but wanted one on hand, also they have a strange ordering procedure and it took a few days but I wasn't in a hurry to get such a good price. No other sources I found were close in price.

Short Video of retracting and extending slide, first time ever no bump at all. When I sent it to the factory for repair at the beginning of the year it came back worse. Seems pretty good now. It was raining pretty hard while I was working on it so I'm hoping the squeaking is because the seals are wet, guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow when everything is dry.

Good job Stern happens. My gear box looked the same way. I am traveling to Arizona at the present time, so I will order another gear box when I get settled in for winter in Casa Grande, Arizona. The bed slide is the only gear box I have had replaced also. Knock on wood it's only one I will have to replace.
