Slide out not plumb while moving.

After picking up our new [for us] 2014 Georgtown 35' RV we noticed the slide out for the couch area makes unfriendly sounds moving in and out but during the move it looks like the slide out is about 3-4 inches out of plumb top to bottom, but does eventually get squared out when fully extended or retracted.

Is this normal or should the slide out remain level and plumb during its travel?

The slide out for the bedroom does not exhibit this out of plumb condition.

Thanks

It’s a non-issue as far as I’m concerned. Mine tilts slightly downward as it’s coming out and then levels out when fully extended. It’s been doing this since we bought our fifth wheel in 2012 and we’ve never had a problem. My previous trailer did this too.

Depends on the slide system. If it's a cable drive, it should go out square.

Thanks AquaMan and other who have replied. Looking behind the driver's seat I see an upper and lower cable [with the slide in] so I would surmise this is a cable driven system.

The kitchen slide is not plumb when it moves. However when it gets into either place it's fine. Bed slide doesn't tilt when moving.

My bedroom slide is cable drive and travels level. My other two do not and that is normal. Outward the slide travels level to start then thetop tips out a bit and then the bottom catches up at the end of travel. Coming inward the bottom comes in first to clear the floor then levels as it travels inward.

The majority considers this a non-issue. What about the noise the OP asked about????

Moved the couch/kitchen table slide out today and while it was not plumb while moving it moved out well until the very end exhibiting a rather large jolt almost like the cable had jumped over some previously wound cable.

Then this evening I moved the slide out back in and when it got about 2" from full in position there was a loud bang and the left side jumped in the final 2".

I think I'll take it back to the dealer as there is a 30 day warranty on it.

Thanks again to all those who took the time to reply.

Hope your holiday is going well.

Slide Problems

The loud bang was a bolt sheering off or a gear tooth sheering off probably. I have a constant problem with my main slider and have talked to Lippert who has not been able to give me any solutions, Forest River Coachmen has not came up with a solution. My dealer has been good a gold but just can't seem to find the why and fix the problem. I have had this problem since I purchased the coach in 2014, Good Luck

Moved the slide out about 1/2 way through it's outward travel and noticed from the outside, the upper rear cable has an 8" loop in it.

After the slide out fully extends, this cable becomes somewhat taut.

Also noticed the carpet behind the driver's seat is exhibiting some significant wear as the slide out drags across it.

Contacted the dealer's web based service appointment page for service. This cannot be normal.

Thanks again to all who took the time to respond.

My 2012 XLR 27 HFS WAS making squeaking noises when extending and I found that some of the four rollers under the slide were not moving/rolling and were digging into the underslide covering. I lubricated the slide tracks and gears and then lubricated the rollers. I am going to purchase some Slick Strips to help with the digging in of the rollers into the cloth/material.

The dealer found one cable that the anchor point [the other end of the cable away from the motor] had come off. Hope to get the RV back on Tuesday.

Thanks again to all who took the time to reply.

My main slide when completely in is about 2" off the main floor of the coach. The trim roset towards the rear of the coach is no longer existent it hit the door track numerous times and came off. Had the dealer repair it 4 times and gave up on it. When completly in it has a bow that in the center of the slide of about 2". The trim lines also do not align.
