Sound with Backup Camera?

Hi all - have a 2016 Georgetown XL that came with a backup camera. We also had (had being operative word) sound where I could here someone behind me talking in a regular voice. All of a sudden, the sound went out. Took it to dealer and they are telling me the Pioneer unit (which I assume is both the camera and the dash unit) was never meant have sound. When I said it did for a year and a half, they tell me I'm crazy. Anyone else have sound with theirs in the same year?? Thanks - just trying to prove to myself I'm not crazy.

Obviously Dr youroo believes you should be committed.

Our 2010 Georgetown has a Voyageur brand camera and microphone on the rear camera. The microphone is ONLY activated when the reverse camera is on. That being said....there are some buttons along the bottom of the viewing monitor to control the volume up and down. Any chance you’ve changed your volume setting accidentally?

Remember the line.....”Can you hear me now?”

You are correct - the sound only comes on when you are in reverse. I've tried the volume and checked the input settings, but couldn't find anything to change. It just stopped working after we had it professionally cleaned, so I assumed it was a microphone that got damaged. Apparently that is not it, but being told "sound is not possible with this unit". Hmmmmm?!?

I have sound on my rear camera on my 2017 Forester (only when in reverse mode, not when you just turn it on manually).

Ours has sound, it’s one way. You can hear them but they can’t hear you, which is good when your telling them about their direction capabilities. The sound has a volume control. I turned mine off, check that. Look in your book on the system for sound adjustment. Can’t remember off the top of my head and the MH is snowed in right now.

Yep, sound is one-way and only when in reverse. I will check the volume and input settings again, but I thought the dealer would have double-checked that kind of thing for me (too much to ask?).

Do you have a monitor just for the back up cam or do you use your Pioneer radio for a monitor with the camera? If you have a sererate monitor (my Forester has one that looks like a rear view mirror) I think the people who cleaned your coach damaged the mike in the camera. If you use the radio when backing the dealer could be correct but it seams strange providing that it worked before cleaning. Maybe the people that professionally cleaned your unit will repair the damage or pay for the repairs. I would use someone like Best Buy or a good radio installer for an opinion since they specialise in those kinds of devices rather than a RV dealer.

Everyone is trying to help but......

The culprit here is the reverse camera microphone not working apparently. It doesn’t matter what kind of RV people have, it’s the camera component, and the brand, make and model can, and often does, change between RV’s.

To the original poster....
State your make and model of camera/monitor.
Only like owners can really offer a solution.

Back up camera sound

I had sound on my MH also till I unprofessionally cleaned the coach with a pressure washer. No longer use a pressure washer on my RV, forces water into places it shouldn't be.

I have a 2016 Xl. My set up is an small power amplifier for wich one chanel is used for the sub woofer at the base of the passenger seat and the other chanel goes to an independant cheap speaker that is loose somewhere there. The sound from the camera microphone is connected to that second chanel and play in the cheap speaker. Everything is behind the peadestal but you should be able to see it from the side. Look forva disconnected connector on the amplifier or a broken wire going to the speaker
