The F53 is based on the 550 chassis. Just no cab and only a radiator support. I’ve done research looking at upgrading the hitch and came to find this out from several sources. As well as measuring and looking up various components.

Well, my guess would be covid shortages and they just used whatever paper they could find, but you can look at their VIN decoder to figure it out.
https://www.fleet.ford.com/content/d...-VIN-Guide.pdf
Position 5,6,7. ALL F series vehicles begin with an "X". F550 would be X5G if it was 4x2. "X5H" if it was 4x4
Yours shows F5D which is a Ford stripped chassis (incomplete vehicle). Not sure how many parts are the same. I was told suspension was different, but who knows.
You can also look at digit 11 (assembly plant). Yours is "0" which is Detroit.
The F550 is built (someone can correct me if I am wrong) in Louisville, KY and the bigger ones, 650 and 750 at Avon Lake which would be "D" or "E"
Not saying they don't share some parts...just saying that we don't ever order an F550, they are always coded as F53 (as far as I have seen).
Also came across this, but, its the internet, so who knows how accurate. Seems to support the VIN coding however.
https://www.irv2.com/forums/f23/diff...body%20builder.
And this from a Ford site which might be more reliable.

And on further reading it seems like Y2KW57 seems to know his stuff in that Ford Forum post.

I'm not so sure I am good at it, I just read their VIN decoder that I posted the link to, which I found via google.
So if anything, it is just my typing skills. 60 words a minute, about 30% accurate.

I've seen many other people post that same F550 sheet for their F-53 and per this post: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f23/2000...is-547346.html
Ford has been doing that for over 20 years. That fellow has a 1999 F-53 chassis with an F550 spec sheet. My guess is the F-53 is essentially an F550 without the cab and body, hence the "incomplete vehicle" code.
Did you know Ford does not actually make the F-53? It's been made by a contractor, Detroit Chassis, LLC for at least a decade.
Hmmm, that picture looks awful familiar.
